The Premarin Foal has Arrived!

Philadelphia, PA(Zone 6b)

What a day yesterday! My friend and I went to Ryers Farm to pick up one of the rescued Premarin foals, which came from North Dakota. This colt is a chestnut Quarter horse/Belgian Draft cross and stands 11 hands at 4 months old...a monster in the making...lol! Loading this baby took a bit of time but everyone was able to get him into the stock trailer...wheww! There were still a few mares and colts in need of homes. They actually had some blue and red roan colors there. The new foal whinnied all the way home...poor thing!
The real party started when we got back to my friend's farm! We couldn't get the foal on a leadline so he eventually walked out of the trailer..no sea legs, surprisingly. Cornering him to go into the small pasture took about an hour. The Quarter horse mare resident who was recently shod/in heat escaped from the barn and decided she was the boss, thereby kicking the foal in the rump..ouch. Everything settled down and we had to put up a new part of the fence, since the colt decided freedom was on the other side of the pasture and he ran into some field fence.
It was a hectic day with a good ending...one more horse saved from slaughter :)

ps...now where's the hay delivery?...lol
