Clever Starlings 1

Walkerton, VA(Zone 7a)

A friend sent this and the following pics. His buddy owns a car wash and he was losing tons of change. Thinking employees were ripping him off, he set up a critter cam to catch them red-handed.
Boy, was he flabbergasted! He recovered $4000 from the building's roof and some more from under nearby trees. Needless to say, he apologized to his workers.

This story, with the same pictures and a few more, first appeared in the Fredericksburg, Virginia newspaper, the Free Lance-Star, in May 1995. In 2005 someone posted the pictures on the Internet and the story took off again -- in all different directions. Some claim it took place in Frederick, Maryland, but in fact it was right here in Spotsylvania County, Virginia 15 years ago. Just Google Starling Car Wash and you will get half a dozen different hits.

Here's a link to a follow up story that appeared in the Free Lance-Star in 2005.

Just as a FYI....You can post more than 1 photo on your thread, you didn't have to post them all separately.

Too funny

I remember hearing about this-clever birds!

Dunlap, IL

It seems like most birds are fascinated with shiny objects. When I was a teen, I figured out I could drive the large McCaw at the local pet store crazy by showing him a shining quarter. We I was a child a relative had a pet Crow and his roost area was littered with the old aluminum can pull tabs and the foil wrappers gum came in. He accumulated quite the treasure trove of goodies. I wonder if this Starling learned this at a petting zoo or fish food dispenser. It seems the urban birds quickly learn these dispensers are were the food is coming from and check to make sure you didn't leave anything behind.
