CLOSED: need ID

At first I thought I was photographing a pine warbler but after looking at the dark black and white markings I'm not so sure. So what could this be in Raleigh, NC?

Hi Plant, It's an American Goldfinch.

This is a pine warbler for sure (right?) and they look very different to me.

Really? I've shot goldfinches here before but they looked like this:

Oh wait. Now I see it. That's a female isn't it?

Or a first winter male.

Look at the bills - thick on goldfinches, thin on warblers.

I should have noticed the bills to begin with. I'm usually more careful than that...
