Hi guys/gals,
It's been awfully quiet on the Georgia forum for quite some time. Hope all is well, and I know the weather isn't quite inviting but still.. what are y'all doing??
Also I think it's time to be thinking about a RU???? YES??
Last year went out the door because of different circumstances - are we going to try this year??
Where are y'all?
I'm here!
I hope we have a RU. It would be nice to see everyone. :)
It certainly is very quiet on the Georgia Forum. Let's hope we can REALLY get together this year, it's been a while!
I'm here. Nothing to report though, except I went to the SE Flower Show at the Cobb Galleria this past weekend. This was the first time I visited this show and I was quite disappointed. I went hoping to find some great new gardening tools and ideas, as well as seeds, etc. Nothing new there, although I did come away with a lovely giclee print of a screech owl created by a very talented artist. The 'show' part left me bored.
kinda cold in Marietta-- thinking about getting some free compost from the county compost site for the vege garden
I've been swimming here, downstream all the way in my new giant swimming pool of a back yard (still trying to fix this). Haven't got much done and most trees and shrubs are still in pots and look TERRIBLE. At least I've got them on the highest land possible so they don't drown.
Next week are 5 whole days of SUNSHINE with low humidity. I AM SO HAPPY, happy happy.
I have not had much to post about because frankly it's been not very good gardening news here, I'm afraid!
I moved to the Athens area from the Bahamas, and the house we bought has a lovely, large garden. We moved in last June. Now I want to do some things--but don't know much about gardening in this climate.
Can I transplant a camelia, with buds on it, this time of year?
THANKS for any help!
Typically, this would be a great time to transplant anything, but I don't think it would be for the camellia. I would think the shock would make it drop its blooms. I would wait until right after the blooms quit. If it is a large shrub, the best way to do it is a couple weeks or so BEFORE you are to move it, Start at the outside (dripline) of the plant, and with your shovel go around in a circle as far down as you can and this cuts the roots. This will stimulate it to put out more, and in a few weeks when you are ready to actually move it, it will have less stress because half of its roots have already been cut.
Just make sure you get a large root ball.
Hey! It's good to see some posts again of familiar names! I was afraid y'all were gone!
Yes, it is cold and wet out there, isn't it? Supposed to rain a lot today too! I cleaned out my little little veggie garden. That had a big (dead) tree fallen on it last year september or october in bad storm with all that rain? it smashed the double glass window in my cold frame! You wouldn't believe where the glass has flown to. So I carefully removed it. I was planning tomorrow to start tilling the old veggie plants in there and add some compost in order to get ready. Really hoping to do real veggie garden this year. Is this too early to start amending?
GGG what happened with your yard? Is this still from last year's rain, not being able to drain? I can't wait for Spring, I,m so done with this cold... funny that huh for a Dutch person? bbbrrrrrr
PondhHouse- although I'm no Camellia expert, I have a few that do relatively well, I would say it is in general not good for any plant to be moved when budding. But if you have to than... you have to. There is I believe a Camellia forum on DG. Try there.
We are talking about RU, prob towards end of April.
it is awfully quiet here. I havent's seen many threads updated. Also, did i missed the garden expo? Danita, have you seen anything? I had fun last year.

Hi Lilli,
I think everyone is frozen stiff. I am soooo tired of this cold weather!! I have planted some tomato, cucumber, and a couple of other things. My little tomatoes are up about 2 inches, so I am going to try to put those in 4 in pots today and maybe plant some more seed. Do you plant anything?
How much snow did you get this past weekend? My SIL lives in Buckhead, but I haven't talked to her. Well stay warm and if you want someone to chat with, I am almost always checking in during the day to see what is going on. TTYL
it is cold. there are some flurries here just now.
we got 4 inches on friday late afternoon. most of the stuff have melted already but very cold temp today. look like it's going to warm up later this week.
Hi LiliMerci! :)
I didn't go either, but I believe the SE Flower Show was the first weekend in February. Someone on another forum said it was disappointing this year so we may not have missed much. I think they were going to cancel it this year and then made a later decision to go ahead with it, so that may have resulted in a poorly planned show.
well, glad i missed it then. it wasn't well advertised either.
Frigid here. Ground frozen for weeks...until today. I didn't expect to be marooned when I moved up here in 2008 from Florida. Four days...steep road (ice/snow)to my driveway. Should have considered a 4 wheel drive. On the bright side, daffodils and crocus popping through the soil. About 700-800 planted in November. Should look awesome in a month or so...scattered all over the woods and along my creek...oh Tulips too..and ummm...too many to remember. I went kind of nuts with bulbs.
Wildflowers spread here and there as well. Really looking forward to spring and summer! I'm betting it'll be a hot season. I've seen very other type of strange weather pattern since moving here except.
that sounds beautiful! Take pictures when they are blooming!
You'll get oodles of pics. Best view would be my blog. I strive to get at least a half dozen up there on each entry.

It has been too cold for too long here in Broxton, GA. Today I noticed that I have glads popping their heads through this cold wet ground. We had snow here, that was only the 2nd time I've ever saw snow. Has anyone heard from Bronx Boy and his wife? Please somebody let me know when the plant sale is in Gainesville. I'm not sure that I can make it this year due to finances, but I am going to try. Sharon
I'm in Cumming. I just got a couple of hundred bulbs planted today. The weather is just wonderful right now!
