I finally found the perfect doggie for my Mom who lost her sweet Am. Bulldog about a month ago. http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1066581/. My DH & I stopped in an animal control shelter yesterday & they had the most adorable 5 month old female Staffordshire Terrier. Her name is Zeta & she has the sweetest personality and lots of energy. I won't be able to bring her home until Tuesday of next week since she has to be spayed first. My concern is how to introduce her to my Mom's other dog, Max, an Am Bulldog about 120 pounds and 3 years old. He's a big goofy thing that just loves to play. I just don't want her to get hurt with Max's "playing."
What we're planning is this: first I'll keep her at my home for a few days or so to let her heal from the the surgery. That's really going to be lots of fun since we have 3 small dogs. When we're ready to bring her to Mom's, we'll take Max for a walk & introduce Zeta to Mom's yard & house. Then we'll take Zeta for a walk also & introduce the 2 dogs while walking. And then walk both of them back to Mom. Does that seem to make sense? I know that sooner or later the 2 dogs will get into a tangle over dominance. Since Zeta is female, young & smaller, that should not last too long. I just don't want her to get hurt.
Does anyone have any other suggestions?
