Where to visit when in Daytona? Vendors? Display Gardens?

Ellerbe, NC(Zone 8a)

We'll be going to Daytona at the end of Feb. DH is going through his second childhood and bought a bike. So we're going down for bike week. I figure while he is riding around I could do my thing. We have relatives in Tampa also, so we'll be stopping in to visit while we're down there.

Where are the 'must see' ; 'can't miss' places to go? I love to look, and would love to buy too. Any suggestions? I love Epis, but also love the Aporophyllums.

I know Bob Smoley's Garden world is down in that area......anywhere else I should visit?

Oh your poor set. LOL,
That is the only one I know. The Washing Oaks state gardens is on A1A Below Marine Land it is small and can be done in less that half a day. Thought I do not how they fared doing the freezes but as they are between the ocean and the intercoastal they probable did not get to much damage... Also there are 2 nurseries on A1A in St Augustine, after you cross the bridge.

Thanks Sandy, I don't know how I missed this post before. I was sick for a while maybe that's when it got by me. Anyway, we are packing up and will be gone on Wed. morning. Gotta get a map printed out with all the Epi sites to visit. LOL

On Saturday, DH took me to E.F.G. Orchids, Inc. located at Power Plant Greenhouses in DeLand, FL. The place will blow your mind. When we walked in DH remarked on how clean it was. He said, "It's just like a hospital!" I came home with a Phaius Tankervilleae "Raben's Raven." It's a beauty.

Oooops! Forgot to tell you that you can view their website along with a map at www.efgorchids.com. Here is a picture of my other nun's orchid that I have had for about 4 years. It had two spikes when I purchased it and it stays outside in the summertime and we bring it in when we come down for the winter. I can always rely on it to have one bloom open on Valentine's Day!

When we were at E.F.G. they said it would be best to call before visiting to make sure they were there.

Go to our Florida thread, they may be able to let you know of other places. Sorry I did not think of this earlier

JeanK, thank you for the picture of "Rabin's Raven'. I bought one in a 2 1/2" pot last fall. Now I know what it will look like when it grows up!
Just fed my Epis with bloom food and they are starting to bud!

I am going to feed mine probable next week, still going to be to cold this week-very strange weather.

Ellerbe, NC(Zone 8a)

Well, I made it back from Florida..... COLD!!! Was not the best vacation!!! I only made it to Bob Smoley's, but I made a haul there. I told him I wanted a cutting of every aporophyllum he had.... figured about 45, which is what he had listed on his website, ended up being about 60! Some new ones from Germany he hadn't even put on the website yet. I have to take an inventory of the cuttings, 'cause I don't even know what I got. Brought home a few Epi cuttings too. I've got to get the photos I took downloaded then I'll post some.
