Never mind. I got tired of sounding like THE idiot gardener.
Even if I was- too dumb to force paperwhites over water & pebbles or marbles or in a hyacinth vase. Then I remembered I did actually do it last year, though I've failed in other years. Some year are just like that. For me. I blame the brain damage I suffered 9 3/4 years ago in a car accident which came close to killing me. Except I believe I grew paper whites over water 8 months AFTER the accident, so maybe that won't fly. I feel like I just tripped while standing still on the sidewalk-but wait- I've done that too.
This year I simply I potted all the rootless non-blooming bulbs in dirt, and the inbal started shooting up and blooming. The Erlicheer are just simply there-but with roots now. I e-mailed & called (got voice mail) the vendor I bought them from-a vendor I used before, (I am fairly sure) at least once, with a very good rating. This is the only year I've bought Erlicheer from them. In the past I've used Bluestone, Touch of Nature and Brent and Becky's. Every bulb bloomed-in dirt if it failed to do so in water. Why didn't I buy from them again? What can I say? This vendor just had a great sale right when I was in the market for them.
I got the reply from the vendor yesterday. I was told I should never force erlicheer as a paperwhite, something I have been doing for 20 years. In fact, this person did not recommend Erlicheer as a bulb that should be forced at all. That it needed lots and lots of cold. So now the bulbs are out in the cold garage (with protection).
Tomorrow I am going to start a new thread about forcing Erlicheer to see who else has tried the bulb, which is sold as a paper white on at least one web site and recommended for forcing on many many others.
