second loss??

Dartmouth, NS(Zone 6a)

I woke up this morning to tweety (who is an inside chicken) rocking forwards and back, totally unresponsive, and fluffed all funny. I gave her some medicated water and put her in a cat carrier with a heat pad. But I can't even get her to drink any water, even if I tip her beak into it, and she keeps tipping forward. Is she lost? what else can I do for her? She was fine yesterday, what could have done this to her so fast?

any advice greatly appreciated,
Batflower

Look for any outward signs, running eyes, nose. labored breathing, puffyness around the eyes. If you can not see any visual signs get her on some antibiotics from your local farm and garden. Check the garden poultry disease thread and see if you can match any symptoms. Good luck to you my dear, keep her isolated from the rest until you find out what is going on. Hay

I had antibiotics on hand. I'm now attempting to force the medicated water into her mouth with a syringe. I guess only time will tell, Thanks guys

Good luck with her. She looks like a real sweetie.

UPDATE - I forced some medicated water into her and it didn't seem to make a difference. . So I called a neighbour who has been raising African grey parrots for the last 30 years. He came over with a nutrient mix he makes himself and feeds to weak parrot babies. We mixed that with the medicated water, and I've been forcing the mix into her every 2 hours for the rest of the day. She has a long way to go but she is looking better. My neighbour said he's almost sure she's in shock. I can't for the life of me figure out what would have caused her to go into shock but I can't see anything else that could be wrong with her. thanks for the good wishes and keep your fingers crossed for us.

thanks,

How is she doing, batflower?

I'm sorry to report, she didn't make it threw the night :-( I wish I knew what had caused this so I can prevent it from happening again. I haven't told my dd yet, but this is a hard loss.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Hugs to you and your DD.

Could it have been something she ate?

How sad! I especially hate it when an animal dies mysteriously.
