What kind of eggs can I expect from my little hens and how do they compare to standard chicken eggs?
Most of my mixed breed hens lay one med to large egg a day can I expect the same or are their eggs much smaller. Thanks for any help!

Bantam Cochin egg question
Not so Molamola, some of the smallest birds lay some of the largest eggs. eggs size is not due to the size of the hen but more often due to the breed of the hen. You said bantam cochins right, the bantam egg should be very close to the small egg of the standard breed. Hay
What a pretty little Cochin, is that a Blue? Looks like it anyway. We have Blue Cochins and they lay small eggs but about the size of a standard chickens first few eggs like Haystack says. They can be pretty good little layers but slack off a lot in cold weather. We haven't gotten a single egg out of our Cochins for a while now. They are also good little broodies and good mother hens. I love the Blue Cochins, they have a great personality.
beautiful birds and a great adorable pic.
Smedg: did you see the seramas on The Haystacks new project thread. Twenty four and two gamehens. Be talking to you soon. Hay
No I didn't hay, I'll look that up.
Heavinscent the roos may calm down when they are older. Our oldest roo used to peck us too and dance around my feet when I sat in a lawn chair outside, but he would always jump up in the chair and let me pet him. It's like he was trying to be a tough roo but he wanted to be petted too. As he got older he mellowed a lot so yours might as well. What's really funny is the kids would run and he would chase them, looked really funny that little roo on those little short legs hightailing it after a kid, then they would stop and he would stop. It was a game with them. He still does it and he a tame ole boy, we just pick him up with no pecking. Our younger roos were the same with being peckish when young.
Cochins of all colors are very friendly and like to jump in your lap, but I think our Blues are more friendly even than the Birchins. Our Birchins are a bit peckish, even the hens and have stayed that way, but the Blues are calmer. Funny how the personalities are different by color.
Smedgekles, I have two Blue Cochin chicks and three Gold Laced ones and the Blues are definitely friendlier and less flighty. Interesting.
Pretty blue hens - handsome son!
Interesting Catscan.
My sister has Silver Laced Cochins and so far they are fairly friendly. I'm partial to the Blues though, I guess because ours are so sweet. We have one Birchin Cochin that is sweeter but the others are all peckers.
Thank you :)
