I'm Back!

Canyon Lake, TX(Zone 8b)

I haven't quick gardening just took a couple months off from posting to get a fence built at the cabin.

Here is a post with a few pictures of my garden I took this past Sunday http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1072893/

A few pis of the fence. We cut and peeled over 200 posts in November and December.

To me there is nothing prettier than peeled cedar posts.

All's done - 500 ft. of fence. The drive is now covered with 3/4 to dust road base. The mud was just too much for happy motoring.

Glad the fence is finished; that was a job; just in time to start getting the garden ready for Spring.

Happy gardening to all of you fellow Texans!

Sounds like quite a job. Looks great! Are the trees all from your land?

Glad you're back! And the fence is awesome! We're trying to figure out a way to fence part of our property for critters but the cost is holding us back. I've taken the winter off from Dave's pretty much - trying to take care of MIL and work part time doesn't leave much "Dave and Me" time! haha!

Yes, all were cut close by. Didn't have to haul them far to the power washer for peeling.

A great by product from the peeling process is the fine mulch that I intend to use for walkways around the raised beds in the garden.

Wow, strong work. How did your back hold up with all that?

dstarr, Glad your back. Spring is just around the corner, huh. Every time I look at my dead GC Basil I wonder how yours made out. I messed up with the 20 cuttings I rooted. I left them too long in the cloning chamber before transplanting them up to 4" pots. The roots had grown down into the water reservoir beneath the growing medium. When it got cold in my back room the roots in the cold water didn't like it. I lost all but one. I'll know better next time.

The helpers did most of the heavy lifting. My back hurts most all the time anyways, but I've learned for the most part how not to let the discs in my lower back pop out. I just take it slow and easy.

TRG......beautiful fence.....what did you use to fasten the cross pieces to the posts?

Sweet looking fence! I love the smell of fresh cedar. Don't like the pollen, but love the smell.

I'm so sorry about your GC basil! Mine are doing great, but I've kept them in my back room under grow lights. I'll be glad to start you some when spring finally rolls around - I hate that the momma plant died!

Dang, fences are expensive! We've been trying to figure out a way to get about 4 acres fenced for a couple of calves, but our figuring isn't going too well! haha! Your's is beautiful. Congrats!
