MS Security Essentials ... ??

My son's girlfriend is always having issues with my laptop... so i have her bring it over and i work on it. [clean it up]

last time, which was the first time i cleaned up all the issues, I installed AVG and Glary Utilities.

This time, she was telling me it shuts down/reboots all the time with out warning... so I googled that -- figured out what was wrong, now i'm cleaning up all the infected 'objects' that got thru AVG.

[Installed Malware Bytes to clean it all up, as when i ran AVG it said the computer was clean]

Now i'm think to install Security Essentials.

Can anyone recommend this? I dont think AVG is doing a good job and want to get her better protection.

She lives in an apartment that has free wifi, and i'm assuming it is an unprotected network, since she keeps having these issues.

any input??
