One of my silkies was dead this morning when I went out to do my chores.Did not see any reason for it,but I know from being on this forum sometimes there is no reason. All were fine yesterday. It may have been one of the fist ones I got and the man did not know how old they were.Still sad
My first death
I'm so sorry. I'm sure you feel bad. This is my first year raising chickens and I know when one of them dies I will feel bad too. We had a close call with one of mine breaking her leg but she mended and is OK now. I have gotten way too attached to my hens I'm afraid. Hard not to do. They are all so sweet. I'm sure your silkie gave you a lot of pleasure and in return it had a great home. Most chickens aren't so lucky I'm afraid. Especially the ones being raised on commercial farms.
To loose a silkie is especially hard. They have such great personalities. Everybody else is just a chicken in my coop, but the silkie has a name!
ALL my chickens have names; it's hard to lose any of them. I'm so sorry.
I'm sorry for your loss :-( I also lost my first chicken this week....More than live stock, they're our friends. At least they have wonderful lives as our friends, and that is something to be proud of.
So sorry for your loss.
Thanks everyone, they are pets just like my dog.
I know what you mean. Most of mine have names and I really enjoy watching them.
So sorry for your loss too batflower. Do you think the cold weather has anything to do with the loss of the chickens?
Sorry for your loss its not easy sometimes. All of ours have names, We even have a Miss C and Miss Z and the roo has been named Hay All three of them were named after people in this forum. Trust me I have already picked out names for the babies I will get in Febuary and they are after wonderful people I have met here on this forum...
Billy named his new Geese, Sesame Street, Cookie and Ketchup.. Go Figure.
Edited again for spelling errors, dang spell check still does not work.

I'm very sorry for both your losses. Most people don't realize what amazing personalities chickens have, and how very attached you get to them.
I don't know how anyone can raise chickens and not become attached. I tried and promised myself never to get attached. I failed miserably. I also am sorry for the loss both of you have experienced. I guess as Batflower said at least they had good lives. RIP our fine feathered friends
Miss Jester, I don't know what to say except I am touched that you would name one of your birds after me. It truly is a privlege, I thank you so much and hope you know how deeply I appreciate you, and your little man. Haystack.
