Suggestions for chick feed

Wharton, TX(Zone 9a)

Hello all, I am getting 25 chicks next week and need a chick feed that is not medicated. The chicks will be vaccinated and I was told by McMurruy to get a non medicated feed. The only one I could find was a brand called Dumor. Are there any other brands that are your favorite?

I use "Swanson", but a lot of feedstores sell local brands or from local mills. Purina is common national brand--I'm sure they must have an unmedicated formula.

Purina's Chick Starter is medicated, but perhaps they make another that is not.

I just checked and Purina makes both medicated and unmedicated, although your feedstore may only carry one or the other.

TSC is reported to carry an unmedicated brand--but I don't know what it is.

TSC carries both Purina and Dumor. The Dumor is not medicated.

TSC is where I got Dumor. That was all they had at the time. I will check with them again about the Purina brand. Thank you for the information cat and pork.

Dumor is good. I raised chicks on it with no problem.

Good to know. This is my first try at raising chickens so I'm glad to know Dumor is good.

I've got the same situation. I had McMurray vaccinate (both types) and the ONLY feed we can find anywhere is medicated. How much of a problem will that be do you think?

Mine were Vaccinated and all I could find was medicated too. I figured any food was better than no food lol! They seem to be fine I get to start them on laying pellets soon Yay!!!

I suppose that medicated feed could interfere with the action of a live vaccine...(?) If it is to prevent a bacterial infection. But certainly is better than no feed!
