Looking for Brug seeds

oshawa, ON(Zone 5b)

I would like to try and grow some brugs from seeds and would be interested in any that anyone can offer. I have never tried them before but I want to learn all I can about brugs. I can SASE or trade. Please let me know.

Here is the link to my trades: http://www.gardenweb.com/members/exch/nancy5?1349

Thanks,

Nancy

Hmm, given how long it takes for Brugmansia seeds to ripen on the tree and the fact that they must be hand pollinated with another variety I don't think tomato seeds are a fair trade, but to a tomato buff who knows. Yes, I do realize everyone has their favorite plants. Mine just happen to be Brugmansia. I do know a few places here will sell seed for very realistic prices. Of course, for any really nice cross...well its just not going to be sold by most people.

you can get some pretty good seeds at valleygrow.com for a good price.

cuttings are much faster and easier.

oblambert, I missed something in your post. Type in Brugmansia. I'm afraid we've slipped into a nickname that's not quite fitting for such a lovely plant.

Arlene is right, cuttings are faster and easier, but seedlings will grow much taller than a cutting. Still, all in all, seedlings generally will bloom within the first year from seed if they don't freeze back and are allowed to grow fast, ie aren't constricted by a container too small as a small container will slow a Brugmansia's growth down. The plus side to seeds, you never know what your going to get and you could end up with a trully spectacular one of a kind Brugmansia. The plus side to cuttings, you know exactly what your going to get.

Sorry....guess I did not realize brug seeds were so valuable. Will keep my tomato seeds for other trades that are more equitable then.
Ah, I also do cuttings....grape vine cuttings....raise em by the dozens every spring and then give the young grape vines away to whoever wants them the following spring, and then start all over again. Guess brugs dont need pruned and the cutting thrown away:) Otherwise the cuttings would be in the same cheap category as grape vine cuttings:)

Anyway, I give so much away that I am really not interested in buying:)

oblambert, please don't be offended. There are lots of seeds posted that are uncommon or even rare, not just brugs. I'm almost certain that if you posted 'looking for brugs for postage' that you will get a response or two. Cuttings are much easier to share than the seeds.

Owen,
I'll be happy to send you a box of cuttings for the postage if you are interested. Email me.

Gloria
PS: Do you have any..if not that makes it easier.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

I still buy cuttings, brugs don't get pruned, so each cutting is done on purpose for propagation.

(Zone 6a)

Not offended.....did not realize the rarity, etc. of brugs.

Think I best stick with my grape vines and tomatoes:)

Thanks for the offer, Glory.....but I dont want you pruning your brugs just to get cuttings for me:)

There was a post for postage deals on cutting of brugs on GW

Question.... If I start brugs from cuttings now, will they grow ok inside my house this winter? I am in zone 6, so will be much too cold to put them outside until late next spring. Do they need to be in direct sunlight inside house this winter while they are growing up? I have read how to store them from outside during the winter.

Still looking for an orange one...my favorite color...if anyone has a cutting for postage:)

I have never raised brugs before, but have done some research on them and my wife and I want to give it a try.
