Golden Eagle versus Red Fox

Tiller, OR(Zone 8a)

I got these images in an email a few days ago, taken with cell phone by a hunter (no name given) in Montana. Oh, to have been witness to such an event!

I'm not sure I would have wanted to witness it, but it is an incredible fight for survival. That snow makes it hard for any of the animals to find food easily. It's interesting that the Magpies (I think that's what they are) continued to sit and watch.

That is amazing! Thanks for posting it tiger!

The very last clip on Youtube looks like the eagle dropped him.

Wow, pretty good pics to be taken by a cell phone! I'll bet the fight was loud, too. I wonder if the fox decided to give up the carcass?

This is very interesting! I did some "googling" and found that the original photos were taken in Finland in 2006.
See this link... http://www.snopes.com/photos/animals/eaglefox.asp
Click on the highlighted word "series", and it will take you to the photos. They are a good bit better quality on this link and you can see more detail.

I watched the video. The next video was an old film where hunters trained multiple eagles to hunt down and kill a fox and then a full sized wolf. It looks like an old film from the 70's. I dont neccessarily agree with it but that is amazing that two birds could kill a wolf.

The photos were actually taken with a Canon 20D and a 300mm lens.

wow ! , I didn't get a picture but yesterday a red tailed hawk almost took our cat lily right off the top of our bench swing she escaped by running and diving under our car . I was surprized that a hawk would go after a cat her size ( she is a little , lets say , generous in size )
