I got the final notice from DG yesterday that my membership expires today. I'll renew in a month or two but don't want to spend the money right now. I'll miss everyone but will be back soon. I'm busy growing some babies so I'll be ready to trade when it warms up too. Oh the streps Susan sent are still alive all of them. They seem to like it domed as I put one on it when they were first potted because they were so stressed and sad. I took it off the other day and they immediately got sad and wilty again so I'm leaving it on and trying to water them just a teensy amount when they are completely dry. When I come back I can't wait to show pictures of them.
How long does it take for a strep to bloom by the way. I never thought to ask that. Do they need to get a certain age or size? And once a bloom starts to form how long does it take to open. I've been surprised that some of these African Violets take a couple months from the time they form the little two leaves that lets you know they're making blossoms to the time they finally open.
Bye for awhile
Hi Anna,Sorry you have to take alittle break from Daves. But I understand about not spending the money now.Take care and see you soon.
I think streps will bloom in about 4 months, maybe someone else will tell you better cause remember I'm a strep killer ^_^ Also when you ready to open your dome do it slowly over a week or so.A little more every day. That way the streps get used to more air than the humidy they are in under the dome.
We sure are gonna miss you but I totally understand. My husband's company just cut his pay.
I hope you will be back soon with lots of pretty pictures for us!!
Lynn
Take good care....and.....Hurry back!
oh hurry back, we will miss you.

Well do to the kindness of Shanika I am back a bit sooner than I expected. Melanie I can empathize with your husband. I am having my hours cut every so often like today when they sent me home at noon. It's not enough to prevent me from paying my bills but I feel that I need to be very careful because I don't know if it will start to be larger cuts at some point.
Oh, only 4 months to get flowers on the streps? That makes me all excited.
Jannich you are so right about the dome on the streps. They are growing! Really growing! I lost a couple of the littlest ones that I had to separate but I've still got a bunch and I'm so impressed. Then again it's probably the great plants Susan sent rather than my skill. These are going to get very crowded very soon though so I will need to get them out of their containers. Twice I took the dome off and they wilted immediately. I thought about propping up the corner of the dome to let in just a bit of air but I couldn't figure out how to do it. Maybe I should ask my husband as he's the handy sort and he can maybe figure it out.
I also have babies growing on the leaves I got in the Round Robin but they sure took their sweet time. I still have two I think that haven't done anything but I have the cutest babies on three of the Senk's. The Senk's Cascade ones are red! Well sort of red and yellow-green. But there is so little green that they will have to stay attached until the turn green I have no idea how long that might be though hope it is soon. I have baby Kentucky Gooseberry plants already and by next week I think I can remove the Senk's Snowy Egret babies.
Glad to be back everyone.
We are so happy to have you!!
Welcome back Anna! That sure was sweet of Shanika.Dave's garden people are the best.A sweet lady did the same for me when my sub was up also.
When it's time to take your dome off I just lay a pen in the corner and rest the dome on that for a week or so.Then I slide the dome off the rest of the way.I know the experts say you can get a strep to bloom from seed in 4 months.I would think a plant is the same way.Great growing with your AV leaves, the first babies are to cute. You have some nice Senks growing.
Have a good day,Jan
Pixie from NE Gardening forum renewed mine this year--no way could I afford this luxury since my injury! And mostly just lurking away here as sometimes that's all I have the energy to do--so keep posting those pics everyone. I wanna see some Snowy Egrets here soon! ^_^
Phoebe, when you get better...I'll bet everyone here will help rebuild you collection! I have several with your name on them. Who would have thought that I would be doing so much better by now and you are still suffering. Get better real soon.
People here really are extra nice it seems. Maybe it's like this on other forums too but I tend to doubt that.
phoebesviolets the little Snowy Egrets I have - I think I have four babies and two are potted as of today - aren't anything to take pictures of at all they seem very slow growing compared to some of the other babies. They ones I removed just have six leaves as of yesterday and I think I waited over a month for them to get from four to six. The first one I potted I accidentally broke off and it's been potted for a month and has only added one little leaf. I think it will be awhile before I'm showing photographs but I need to send three of them to people so if anyone wants one make sure you let me know. Oh and I forgot to say that I don't know what happened to you but it sounds like it's been difficult and I hope you are better soon.
