Dear all, I did put this on my onion soup recipe, so many people seem to like it, I will put it on here for everyone to see.
If you can get hold of Camembert in a wooden round box, which is the the thing it should be in, it is simple to make a delicious cheese to go with any soup or on its own.
Take the Camembert out of the box and remove the plastic film around it, now put it back in the wooden box. With a small knife pierce some fine holes in the top of the Cheese, then add slivers of peeled garlic in the holes you have made, as many as you like, it is up to you!
Then sprinkle some dried thyme or your favourite herb over the top. Replace the lid and place in a preheated oven at 375F for about 20 -25 minutes. Don't worry the box does not normally catch on fire.
Remove it from the oven and check with a knife to see if It is well melted, if not put it back for a couple of minutes. Replace the lid and serve on the table, when you open it the smell of the cheese, garlic and herbs wafts everywhere. Then when you dip a piece of good bread in it, you get a lovely, tasty, runny cheese flavoured with all of the above.
The taste is truly delicious, as it oozes all over some warm crusty bread!
As the oven is on, in the last minutes you can also warm your bread up, if you so wish.
Simple and truly wonderful.
Good for anything, from the cold winter nights, to a summer treat. One cheese does about two as a starter, but be warned once people get the taste, it soon goes.
Regards.
Neil.
