I gave my sister a small Hoya carnosa for her birthday last June. It seemed to do okay for a while but then went into decline and so in September or October she gave it to me to save. I have never had one so have read all I can and so far it has survived. The problem is it has not grown at all. Maybe it is in a dormant period? I moved it about a week ago from a south window to near a west facing sliding glass door. It's leaves look healthy. Should I not expect to see any growth this time of year? I am hoping to get it to grow large and healthy so that one day my sis can try again. She had a large Hoya years ago that did very well for her and had talked about it as being the one plant she was able to grow. Oh well. I have read that they are more delicate when small. I will include a picture and if anyone has any advice it would be greatly appreciated.

I am by no means an expert, but they are slow growers in general. I keep mine in a heated GH over the winter and they don't grow that much. Definately, do not over water, I try to keep mine on the dry side during the winter.
No expert here either but I also have one of these and find it a slower growing Hoya. This winter I have a greenhouse and find it is actually putting on new growth. It is receiving cooler temps at night and bright but not direct sunlight. I've not fertilized it, watering only when dry. I suspect it will require patience.
I got one of those from a friend more than a year ago and have had zero growth on it since as well. The plant is H. carnosa 'tricolor' (sometimes called H. carnosa 'Krimson Queen'). It is a slow grower for sure. And yes, allow it to grow dry between waterings. At the beginning of February, I start to give my plants a very, very dilute fertilizing. Be patient; treat it right and it'll grow. It also needs to be very mature before it'll flower so don't hold your breath, it could take 4-5 years. My previous tricolor would flower maybe three times a year tops, and only one or two umbels of flowers at a time - certainly not a generous bloomer - but it has very, very pretty flowers.

Sometimes Hoyas can be slow to start. Dont be surpirsed if you seen no growth for a while..then it will suprise you at some point and start throwing out growth..when its ready, probably in the spring, but can be anytime really. Dont overwater it, feed it in the spring and that pot should be big enough for a 2 or 3 years.

Pinch its' roots, water very little (and when you do water drown it) and grow it in lower light than you think is necessary. Especially being variegated the carnosas seem to grow well in half the indirect/direct light of others.....
Not an expert either, but I do have three of these in my office.
All are very slow growers and all are in glazed pots. One is on the north facing window, the other two are away from the window. My office is kept at 74F during the day and 60F at night. It's rather dry. They each grew about 10" in 2 years. The one on the window branched more. I water them once a week in winter and keep a saucer with water to help with humidity.
I also have one at home in a clay pot and it's not doing as well as those at work.
It grew 50% less. The house is at 77F 24/7 and is probably drier than my office.
I'll try root pinching too to see what it does.
I moved my plant and since my first post it has grown three new leaves on the end of the larger piece and 2 on the short one. I will try to post pictures tomorrow. Ya after almost 6 months with no growth at all this is exciting.
