Good Day Today!

Biggs, KY(Zone 6a)

Had a great day today. Got all the animals fed, got all the wire strung on the goat lot. Had 3 sides of it up and the snow did a real number on it. Then we realized it wasn't close enough to the ground so I had to restring it all. Crawled across the hillside like a bug but it's done now and the hot box is hooked up. If the weather in nice tomorrow I'm gonna let the goats out. Also got the big pin driven in to put the guard dog back on the hill. I'll move him tomorrow. A new hen laid for me today. I picked up 7 eggs yesterday. The temp was almost warm today and no rain. The sun even made a brief appearance. It was a great day. We were due and i thank the Lord for it!

Richmond, TX

We too had a great day - sunny and warm - rare this winter.

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

Our weather is back to normal. My garden looks like some one took a blow torch to it.

Biggs, KY(Zone 6a)

That's terrible. I had another good day today but I'm pooped. Bad weather is on the way again so I tried to get a lot of stuff done today. Mucked out the pig pen and part of the horse lot. I'm paying for it now.

Richmond, TX

I've been watching the weather hoping it will stay dry long enough to move a round bale into the cow pasture. It looks as if the bad stuff will miss us to the north on its way to you. I'll offer sympathy, but I don't want to share!

Wren, everything is dead here too, or maybe it just looks to be.

Biggs, KY(Zone 6a)

I understand your feelings and don't hold it against you. LOL

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

CajuninKy hope the weather misses you

porkpal that freeze did a number on all the plants here in Florida-afraid that winter veggies are going to be very, very expensive!!!!

We many get a lot of rain tomorrow. At least it does run off here

Richmond, TX

My winter vegetables; broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, kohlrabi, snap peas etc. all came through our several days of temperatures in the teens, so if winter veggies go up in price, someone is taking advantage.

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

The veggies down in Miami area did not fair so well. They where hard hit.

Biggs, KY(Zone 6a)

It has been raining here all day.

Portland, OR(Zone 8b)

Same here. It's been a very wet day. I doubt even ducks would be happy.

Richmond, TX

Oh, I'm so glad this last band of rain missed us - so far. I am very tired of rain and mud. You have my sympathy.

Biggs, KY(Zone 6a)

It is a bit colder here today. We are also getting some mix of sleet, snow and rain. Praying it doesn't turn into much.

Bridgewater, ME

It is raining here and 44 degrees, that is almost unheard of here in northern maine

Biggs, KY(Zone 6a)

It's colder this morning but the wintry mix didn't amount to anything. Thank the Lord!!

Richmond, TX

I'm glad for you. Our warm spell is about to end, and I was enjoying it so much...

Joplin, MO(Zone 6b)

CajuninKy are you suppose to get the nasty winter weather that's suppose to hit us on Thursday/Friday or are you too far north? They are calling for extensive snowfall here with ice mixed in.

Richmond, TX

Here we're supposed to get the weathers separately: first the rain, then the cold. Maybe you will too?

Joplin, MO(Zone 6b)

Already had the rain & cold. Flurries yesterday. Its freezing here. 24 last night, high of 40 today, low of 24, high tomorrow...34, low 23. Ice first.. (probably the cold & rain your getting) then snow starting late late Wed night into Thursday. :) Time to get out the sleds! Going to call the kids tonight, get them prepared to come snow in Wed night.

Portland, OR(Zone 8b)

Can I come too? We had snow for one day several weeks ago. Lately it's been around 50 and wet, though most of this week it should be dry.

Joplin, MO(Zone 6b)

sure. Be nice to have someone over the age of 15 to sled with. I love to go sledding.. most of my friends hated it.

Biggs, KY(Zone 6a)

I slid down the driveway on an empty feed sack. LOL I had to slide on my butt down the chicken hill for about a week. It would have been fun if it hadn't been for the curve halfway down. I hope it doesn't get bad like they say.

Joplin, MO(Zone 6b)

LOL feed sack.. will have to try that one! I've got enough of them.

Biggs, KY(Zone 6a)

It was the sack that the alfalfa cubes came in. Slick as glass. Have to be careful not to let the empties lay on the ground. Stepping on one on a clear day can land you on your hind end. They are green with the prettiest picture on them. I don't know why they are so slick.

Joplin, MO(Zone 6b)

ooo i bet the cat food sack would work then! this should be fun. We pick pretty steep hills to sled on. One has a creek about a 1/8th of a mile from the bottom. 3 yrs back one of the kids & I ended up nearly in teh creek after coming off the hill we were going to fast. We use either those new fiberglass bottom/ foam sleds or my old metal disk ones that you can wax. if the snow gets deep enough to make impressions where you sled, to keep you on track, i will dry ice the bottom of the metal sleds. Then you really fly.

Richmond, TX

Wow, you sound like a professional!

Joplin, MO(Zone 6b)

been sledding since i was big enough to sit up on the sled. We make sledding an art here, extreme sport.. whatever you want to call it. The steeper the hill, the faster the sled, the way more fun we have. :) They tie them behind the tractors, four wheelers, cars, pickups, horses. Anyway you can get the sled to move.

Biggs, KY(Zone 6a)

I'll gladly forgo the sledding if it will keep it from snowing.

Joplin, MO(Zone 6b)

o not me! i love snow. its the best part of winter. It makes the brown grass, leafless trees & sparse looking woods look beautiful again.

Portland, OR(Zone 8b)

I don't mind the snow, it's the ice I do not want. It sounds like our winter is pretty much over out here; it's been in the upper 40's to low 50's during the day. I noticed some trees have starting flowering.

Joplin, MO(Zone 6b)

lol i've got trees budding out too.. they are in for a rude awakening tomorrow morning. I've got tulips starting to sprout, pretty ladies showing green thru the ground.. garlic growing. i do not like ice. its pretty to look at but its a pain to deal with. Our two winters of ice storms was enough for me for awhile. Its a nightmare trying to sleep during one. with the power out all you can hear is falling trees & limbs. You lay awake wondering if the next one will be on the house or your bedroom Loud thumps, cracks & strange gunfire like sounds all night long. That was a very long 5 days. But it does amaze me at how quiet it is when electricity goes out, cars can't go anywhere. Perfect still quiet. it was so peaceful.

Richmond, TX

I noticed one of the peach trees starting to bloom today - but it is supposed to be 30 or below this weekend...

Biggs, KY(Zone 6a)

We are supposed to get snow today. Maybe a foot. Just hope it's a dry snow.

Joplin, MO(Zone 6b)

i bet its wet... we've got 10 to 14 inches coming now... 3 inches of sleet.. no ice thankfully.

Kingman, AZ(Zone 7a)

Pictures of Cajun and Grey sliding down on feed sacks please...

Portland, OR(Zone 8b)

Grey also needs to be wearing the welding gloves and mask....lol.

Bridgewater, ME

Its 14 here right now and the wind is howling around 30 mile gusts, closed up the vents in the coop and turned on heat lamps, going down to 0 tonight and really gusty winds.

Joplin, MO(Zone 6b)

no mask.. gloves.. maybe. :) last time i wore a face mask out to sled i was 12... we'd added a few.. um... bumps to the hill to give us a bit of air, seems we miscalculated one. the boys set the sled way far back (20 ft from the start line) and pushed me with all they had letting go at the start line. I hit the bump & suddenly was airborne. I could see the tree in front of me.. then o.. wow.. blue sky.. then.. um.. the boys.. then snow.. then the tree again. Seems I did a prefect 360 on a metal disk sled off a homemade totally snow ramp. never again. had whiplash for a week. Never wore a face mask again to sled with. That was a good sledding snow. 10 inches of snow, 2 inches of ice, another 3 or 4 inches of snow & a bit more sleet/ice stuffs. packed great, we could build turns & such in the paths.

Biggs, KY(Zone 6a)

We got just a bit of snow today around 2pm. It was very light. It was hard and small like sand. Thank the Lord.

Joplin, MO(Zone 6b)

um... CajuninKY... if its small & hard like sand.. that's sleet. Snow is very soft & fluffy even when wet. but sleet works just as well for sledding.
