Round up

Caddo Mills, TX(Zone 8a)

Is there going to be an East Texas R/U? If so I am very interested in going. Tina

Willis, TX(Zone 8b)

Chompin' at the bit, Tina? (smile) I'm sure there's goin' to be a RU this spring....stay tuned.....seems like it was Feb last year when the planning began for the last spring RU....lookin' forward to meeting you there! Lee & Dee

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

The spring RUs are usually in April, so be looking for info soon!

Grandview, TX(Zone 8a)

Me too. I can't wait. I've noticed some of the others are already setting dates and such. I've just been trying to wait patiently to see when ours will begin. I'm sooo ready for spring. LOL

Wells, TX(Zone 8b)

I was working on some stuff to trade at the next roundup tonite.. painted stone plant makers

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

Yes there will be a spring RU I just talked with Josephine about the one over in Arlington so we don't plan on the same day or too close together for those that want to make both of them.

I will start a thread a lil later in the month as to dates

New Braunfels, TX(Zone 8b)

Just wondering who does the planning/arrangements for this get-together? Do all areas of Texas participate? What exactly happens? Tnx for the info. Rebecca

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Generally, the RUs are held by regions. Some people travel many miles to attend. You secure a location. It can be at a public park or someone's home/yard. One year, the North Texas group went to a parade of gardens in Waxahachie and then gathered for food and plant trade at someone's house (TJ's). There's generally a pot luck type meal, then lots of visiting and talkin' plants and stuff. At the North Texas RU, there's also a door prize giveaway.

Grandview, TX(Zone 8a)

It's a lot of fun. You should plan to come.

Dallas, TX

I am told Arlington is Sunday, May 2nd, 12 noon. It sound like a long way off, but it will be here before you know it. I am never ready. :(

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

Sheila will be in charge of the North Central Texas Spring swap, she will post a thread with the details soon.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
April 10 sounds like a good date for the East Texas swap Charlene, I think it is a very nice
idea to have to have a Farewell for Dave and Trish.
Josephine.

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

Oh Okay then if someone is doing it on another site(?) or what ever then I will leave it alone and let them handle it
Sorry if I spoke out of turn.

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

Phyllis I am sorry, I thought you and Charlene were working together?
Traditionally you have been the one to handle it.
Josephine.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Hello Tina.......There will be RUs this year for sure, Hope to see you at one. I am going to head up the N Central TX RU in Arlington for Frostweed this year as she has asked. I have rented the pavillion in Arlington for May 2nd (we start Sunday @ noon). Watch for a post later today on this TX Gardening forum.

Charlene....
It seems to me people are going to get really confused with this. I hope you get with Phyllis and keep the RU postings, trade threads and etc. on DG.

I can understand you want to organize something for Dave and Trish, but in my opinion you need to let Phyllis continue with the RU plans on DG. I hope you both will communicate before this situation expands.
Sheila

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

I agree with Sheila about keeping the RU threads on DG, it could get too confusing posting at both places.
Josephine.

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

No need for you to be sorry Josephine you have done nothing

I had posted above on the 5th in regards to one for spring but I am not going to fuss or fight over it if they have started the plans over there so I am not needed any longer.

thanks for your concern..I'm just gonna fade in the background.

Buffalo, TX(Zone 8b)

Phylis,
Please don't fade. I am really confused here as to what to do.

Please, please forgive me for making it seem like I wanted you fade into the background. That was never my intention at all.

I apologize profusely. I have been very pleased with the way the ETRU's have always gone, so if it was you that set them up, then it should be you again.

Stepping aside quickly,
Charlene

Big Sandy, TX(Zone 8a)

All of these RUs are Dave's Gardens RUs and should stay that way. If people from the other sites want to come, I am sure most people would not mind. But they started here and should be run here, by the people who normally set them up, unless they are no longer interested in doing so.

Grandview, TX(Zone 8a)

They are. No one is trying to take them away from DG. They belong here :)

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

Ok Kids relax and step outside and let's chill a lil. :-)

I know I have been somewhat missing this winter from the Texas forum but it is a quiet time for gardening and AFS exchange students have had things going on and as I type this my husband is on his way back home from Illinois so my mind has not totally been on gardening and RU's.
His oldest boy is handicapped and was taken to the hospital last week.
His shunt was malfunctioning so he was very lethargic, non responsive
My husband left here at 3am friday for a 15 hour drive to get back to Rockford and made it in time to see his son before they took him into surgery. Had they not taken him in when they did he may not have been here ..Surgery
went well and he is doing very well now
BUT my biggest concern is Dh driving home as there was snow in Illinois and light snow on his way to west Memphis and I know AR had snow today and we had rain so who knows what the roads will be like.

So on to the topic of RU's
I had emailed Frostweed ON Feb 1 asking her as to the plans for Arlington as we both know alot of people try to make it to both of them
As I posted above on the 5th
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/p.php?pid=7533533
I was planning on emailing down to Houston and college station as I also know they plan one also and even folks from around here like to attend them also...SOOOO to be fair to all I wanted to get ideas as to the dates everyone was looking at so we would not be over running each other and try to make it possible for those wanting to attend more then one would be able to.
We are looking at April / May for an RU we need to find a date that Loves Lookout is available to use so if everyone can please be patient while we find this out then we an set the date and get the threads going for attendance/ food and trades.

As for the house warming gift presentation there is room for that to fit into the RU as well with out any problems.

Good to see you posting Phyllis.

Willis, TX(Zone 8b)

Phyllis,......remember how the weather was at the May 16th RU last spring? I thought it was a good day, as I recall,...a little cool that morning early,...kinda foggy(weather....and yes,...sometimes mind)... on my drive up,....but it warmed up nicely. early to mid May would probably follow other RU's....maybe not....any time would be fine for us....I was just throwing that out there for rhought

Wells, TX(Zone 8b)

it was very humid that day and it was hot at the end of the day..lol..

Buffalo, TX(Zone 8b)

Just so everyone knows, I have offered to help Phylis in any way that I can. I am not in any way, shape form or fashion trying to take over.

The only reason I had posted anything about it at all was to get started talking about a date.

Trish had posted that she had a couple of dates already blocked off. So, I (wish I hadn't) took it upon myself (sorry I did) to start a thread about setting a date. That was the only intent. I really do prefer to sit back and enjoy and not be at the helm, so that was my plan. I figured that date discussing could be initiated by anyone. I didn't mean to step on anyone's toes.

I plan on attending RU's as long as they remain friendly and pleasant as long as I am able. I consider the RU's like a family reunion. Maybe even better, because there are no real relatives, just plant cousins.

Looking forward to attending ru's as just another body that is present and not as someone in charge.

Charlene

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

I've talked with our DDetex dude (giggles) and he says May 15th we could get a spot at Loves Lookout
So If everyone is in agreement with May 15th for the East Texas RU for 2010 we will make it then

As to why for inquiring minds
April 3rd is Easter Weekend
April 10th was already picked by the gulf coast area,
April 17 is SF Austin Plant sale
April 24 Cheerokee master garden plant sale
May 2 is Arlington and we try very hard to not run over each other as we have folks as I mentioned before they like to go to as many RU's as possible
May 8 is Mothers day weekend

Wells, TX(Zone 8b)

have fun everyone.. I cant make it then.. that weekend my first weekend for fun away from home in 5 yrs..Im commited to it..

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

Blkraven2, you could still trade and give your plants to a member that lives near you, and they can bring your trades back, we do that sometimes.
Josephine.

Wells, TX(Zone 8b)

thanks for the sugestion Joesphine but lll just wait till the fall round up to do my trades.. you know me Im patient..lol.. I was going to bring my EE castings I have left, some concrete planters Id made and painted stone plant markers but all of that will keep till fall..I still dont have much in plants

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

I am sure what you have will be wonderful for trades, I sure am enjoying that bowling ball you did for me, it is so pretty and such a conversation piece, every time I look at it I think of the kind lady who made it for me.

Jacksonville, TX(Zone 8b)

Karen, I'm sorry you won't be able to make it :(

Wells, TX(Zone 8b)

me too Trish, I was soooooo looking forward to it.I have a friend and his wife that is taking me and my motorcycle to the kerrville area that weekend.. thats why I was so excited about seeing it april 10th..I would have been able to do both.. It will be my first vacation since being hurt.. a huge group of my 650CCD forum family will be there.. I finally found a dog sitter that I know will feed my pups and check on them so I can leave for a few days and have some fun...the few times I have gotten away for longer than a day have been for when my mom was ill and her funeral..neither of which were fun...

Dellroy, OH(Zone 6b)

Hi everyone....

I apologize if someone got the impression this was no longer your Round Up to plan because it very much still is your Round Up to plan. What I would like, if you are willing, is for someone to dmail me the definite date when it is set so we can plan accordingly to get plants, gift certificates, and other donated items to the Round Up when you all gather for the fun and festivities.

Again, I apologize for the confusion. Please continue as you always do and make it the best Round Up ever!
Thank you,
Julie

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)
