I have a fairly large expanse of wire vine, which appears to be pretty heavily damaged from our cold winter. I am thinking of giving the whole thing a close shave with my electric shears to get rid of the blackened upper leaves and see if it will rejuvenate itself. Any thoughts? I noted from the Plant Files that this may be considered invasive, although I've not had any particular problems with keeping it in bounds. Seems pretty well behaved to me. I'd post a picture of the damage, but somehow my camera got trashed over the weekend (family gathering, no one 'fessing up, but it has clearly been either dropped or banged into something with the lens fully extended - won't work at all...dang it).
Wire vine (muehlenbeckia) winter damage
Hi, I'm not an expert on wirevine but I had one that survived 2008's winter cold and came back this past spring. (Can't tell if it made it this year, yet, though.) I cut it all the way back without a problem, although it did take a while to rejuvenate itself.
The top might die but it will be back,. I'm having trouble getting rid of it. Mine climbed up a huge 6' tall burning bush smashed it in the snow. I ripped it all out and its back. No worries
Mine survived the 2008 winter in an exposed container. I took a look at mine a few days back - not sure if it will reappear, but my guess is, that it will.
