Hey, all! Wow...I see some beauties getting posted :) So nice to see blooms to cheer you in the winter months. Although I don't have blooms to post, I do have a pic of something growing on our car. Can you believe this??? He/she has been at our neighbor's and here for the past 3 days. This is what we saw this morning. My hubby got him off of the car and now he is playing in a mud puddle between our 2 vehicles. There are no ponds close by. Kind of fun to look out the window and watch it. I hate to say how many people have driven by to look and take pics...even the newspaper. Yes, we DO live in a small boring little town so this is classified as a big event! Even had a knock on the door. LOL
Gray Goose, anyone?
That is so cool Connie!! Great picture.
oh wow, so cool.

Handsome fella!!! :)
Oh cool ... a Canada goose! Maybe he/she wants a ride farther north? LOL. I love those birds. About five years ago when my dear MIL was still living I would take her for rides every day and there is a lake a few blocks over and in the winter time there were always a few hanging out at the lake for a few months. For quite a few years there was one lone Canada goose living at another lake here in a little town. It's an area that is called city center complex, with a couple of buildings that house city offices, the library and a rec center. This one goose would hang out with a lone mallard duck. There's a sidewalk all the way around the lake and folks feed turtles in the lake as well as the ducks and sea gulls, aninga's and whatever other birds happened by!
That is just such a great picture of him standing on the roof of the car! Too cute!
Hey Connie, great pic! Is he still hanging around? You know, if you name him, he's yours right? LOL Keep up posted!
We have had a lot of traffic and door knocking. We did notice that they would take pics FIRST and then tell us there was a bird/goose on top of our car LOL! Thought about naming him "Mother" HA! A guy stopped by and told us he was going to try to pet him and he flew off. It has been a few days now and we haven't seen him since. We have stray cats in the neighborhood and we wonder if that is why he stayed on the car so much. He would sleep there at night. Before he flew off, he was starting to get tame and we were able to get up to the side of the car. COME BACK TO US, MOTHER GOOSE....COME BACK!!!!!
He is so pretty. Hope you see him again soon!
hmm .. I thought he was on top of the car maybe because of warmth. Maybe there was heat radiating from the hood (from the engine or warmth from the roof after the sun had heated it up? I think if the cats wanted to get at him, they'd be jumping onto the car to chase him. I hope you see him again too ... keep us posted!
Oh I hope he comes back soon!!
Maybe make a goosehouse? That would be fun!!!
Funny to see this. Up here in Michigan, we've actually had a "goose problem" in one of our parks. We had hundreds of these guys living there
and they were starting to act like they owned the place (they hiss and get a bit nasty if challenged). If I recall correctly, the city actually hired a cargo plane to foribly migrate part of the flock one year! Whenever I think of this I have a rather humorous image of a Northwest 747 leaving the airport with a goose belted in at each window. For some reason, I find this quite amusing.
Anyhow, I do agree that they are beautiful, and I feel lucky to be able to go down to the park and watch what I call 'goose practice" -- as far as I can tell they are practicing water landings and takeoffs as a flock. It's quite a site! (picture below)
They took over the parking lot where I use to work, they would sit on theawning the males wereactually attackingas you tried to enter underneath if there were eggs around. The bestthing was the warning sign, Warning Geese may attack! The stuff they put around the building smelled like grape hubba bubba bubble gum, they didn't like the smell so they wouldnot makethere nests there. But thoselittle babies are just adorable to watch!!
I know what you mean about the mess. Not complaining too much though. It's good to see a conservation effort be so successful. I love hearing them honking overhead. And seeing a huge flock flying in v-formation is awe inspiring.
When I lived in WA state south of Tacoma, the Canadian geese were so bad some of the parks had to be closed due to bacterial threat. I saw one in the park here in WI a few years ago, and sure enough, each year there were more and more, and they have now taken over the riverside parks. Pretty, but nasty. I personally don't like them.
