Oh My! My first bloom of 2010!

Summerville, SC(Zone 8a)

I had given up on my Snowbells, Leucojum aestivum that I had traded for 2 years ago since they never bloomed and was going to move them somewhere else .. As I was doing my walkabout this afternoon I noticed one clump finally decided to bloom! My first flower for 2010. Here's hoping the rest do likewise!

Oh, how pretty that is.

I have camellias and one lonely bottlebrush flower (panicle?)

I'm surprised you tried those snowbells (snowdrops?) as I thought they required more cold than we usually get to bloom. haven't had any luck in the past with them, and then I was told they really need zone 6b at most.

They aren't the snowdrops. These guys are zoned 4 - 9.

These are a tad larger than snowdrops and they have that neat little green spot on each petal.

Wow--my Leucojum aren't even up yet, and I'm zone 8, supposedly (though this winter it feels like the zone 7 we "used" to be). Saw my first crocus shoots, though. Those are all bulbs in the ground from years past. I planted tulips so late this year, and just before the big cold snap, so not sure if those will do anything. Guess we'll see.

Mine are next to the house in that area where the grass is still green .. the leaves started showing up well over a month ago.

The Leucojum is on the north side...probably slows it down. But now you've got me anticipating, so I'll be running out there to take a look every few days.

What a treat your gorgeous photo is, X!

Thanks .. as Ardesia mentioned, I love the little green on the petals .. it's like someone took a paintbrush to them.

I love that green, too.
I had these growing all over the side of an old house on the West Coast, once. There was only about 6 yards between that house and the adjacent house, with deep, deep shade, and the Leucojum just adored it there. I, of course, thinking that no one was able to enjoy them in that spot, and that they needed more sun, promptly dug them up and moved them, and they were never as happy again. The house was built in 1926, and I'm guessing those bulbs had been in that spot all those years, just multiplying and never being disturbed, right at the base of the house. Wish I had taken some with me when I moved. My first love affair with Leucojum. Not sure why more people don't plant them.

Oh so very wonderful to see spring blossoms!!
I have those same ones, and there's green, but not flowers yet. Lucky you!!

Saw what appear to be very, very, very, very early daffodils driving by a house a few days ago. For all you folks further south, you won't be amazed by this. But, I swear, this is the earliest I've ever seen any here. Have to stop by tomorrow and confirm what they are....Unbelievable...

I spotted these at the front of a neighbor's garden on my way home from work Thurs. night. I was so thrilled to see them, that I pulled over to take a pic.

Debin, that's a great shot!

You've got me wondering: do you keep your camera with you all the time?

I really need to order some early daffs in the fall. Mine won't appear for some time yet.

Thanks. LOL. Yes, Fleurs, I do have it with me almost all the time. Ya never know what you might see. :)
