Wanted: Staghorn fern spores or other fern spores

Ocean Springs, MS

I always try to start some new kind of seeds when I get the winter blahs. I am looking for fern spores to propagate this year. I can send SASE for postage. Thanks, julie

Julie, I have friends that have staghorn ferns hanging in their trees. What do the spores look like, what do I ask them for? They're not green thumb gardeners.

The spores will look like brown specks on the back of the leaves. That's what you're looking for. Just brush them off into a paper towel. Thanks, julie

Okay, I'll ask when I see them tomorrow.

Hi Froggie (Julie),
I probably have some, let me look today and I will get back with you.

Thanks. I'm looking forward to trying to germinate these. May take months for little ones to form, but I will share if I'm successful.

I hang mine in the greenhouse, so this year all the pots that was beneath them had little ferns popping up in them. I keep digging them out and repotting them in their own pot. They are sooo cute when they are little. I will go take some pics of them. I have several different kinds. Any particular ones you want?

Any kind will be appreciated! Thanks so much. Let me know when to send the SASE.
love, julie
