I just came back from Florida and got to see the damage firsthand. I combined a mini-vacation with a meeting of the Bromeliad Guild of Tampa Bay where I presented a program on Bromeliads of NW Argentina. I'm certainly no expert on growing Bromeliads in Florida, but Tom Wolfe is (he is current President of BGTB and a Past-President of the Bromeliad Society International). He suggested to remove the damaged leaves and check the stem of the plant near the base. If it's firm, you will probably get offset production. So don't give up hope!
