Is it going to be an early Spring?

Williamstown, NJ(Zone 6b)

While I was taking a walk around the beds, to see what damage the heavy snow had done. I noticed some bulbs trying to poke their little stalks up out of the ground. Even the peonies are poking up saying ,Hello, can I come out yet? I am hoping that with the warm spell and these little guys making a showing so soon that it is truely a sign of an early spring.

Corning, NY(Zone 5a)

I sure hope so, now if they would keep the lights off from Phil Feb 2nd, it could be true:)Anita

Is that Ground hog day? I never know when it is...lol. Yeh I hope it is a real rainy day and lots of clouds. NO ARTIFICIAL LIGHTS!

Corning, NY(Zone 5a)

Yes it is, Right keep the lights off:)

The birds are chirping, and the sun is shinning. I still have hope....lol

I'm in Zone 5 and I have hyacinths up, but no peonies. I have more shade than sun. It looked like I had a daylily up and the deer ate the sprouting leaves. The days are longer, I noticed that a week or two ago...It would be great to have an early spring!

I am noticing more trying to poke their heads up and out of the ground.
With it being as cold as it has been I was surprised. But maybe this is a sign. Mother nature knows best.

Marie, All of my bulbs are up. Many many shrubs have swollen buds. It really is going to be a strange year.

Williamstown, NJ(Zone 6b)

I agree, I mean with more snow coming and all. I am just as confused as the plants...lol

Pittsburgh, PA

I have nothing but hyacinth's up, it is strange!!!! I usually have daffodil leafs up by now????
We are getting snow this weekend 2-8 inches.
Days are longer, that is a plus until the time change, lose an hour!

Norristown, PA(Zone 6b)

Obliqua, I am surprised that you have any foliage up now. I always think of Pittsburgh as being pretty cold and a lot less sunny. But it is a wonderful city with great people.

I certainly hope there is no 'early' spring, there is no such thing.
What happens is a warm spell makes everything pop up, then after they form buds way too early,
hard freeze kills them :(

MY bulbs are looking for their longjohns.

Pittsburgh, PA

We are covered with the 25 inches of snow that has been piling up eveywhere. Most schools are closed, nowhere on the streets to wait for school -buses! If you walk somewhere, you are forced into the street because most people are not clearing their sidewalks? It is dangerous on two lane streets. Our streets are for the most part narrow and hilly. (This is the City of Pittsburgh)

I am still praying for that early spring!

I am hoping this is the last Hurrah of winter and it goes away and leaves us alone for 8 months

I bet all plants are looking for theiur longjohns right now.
I ahve a few shrubs that are gonners I am sure. All the weight of the snow has flattened them.

Pittsburgh, PA

We supposedly have a grand total of (this morning) 25" since Friday. It snowed all day today and It is supposed to stop by
7:00p.m.

It is too much. Seems like everything is flattened. I just saw a number of large pine trees pulled down by the snow, cracking them.

When I was a little girl I remember this snow, but as you get older you appreciate it less. It seems children don't "play" in the snow. Lots of schools are off and I have seen no snowmen or anyone playing????

My dead-end street has not been touched since this second storm started, It is hard to get to work, when you cannot get off of your street.

Norristown, PA(Zone 6b)

LOL, We're at about 45" since Friday. Saturday's snow was nice & light & fluffy. This one is wet & heavy and much more damaging. It's now gearing up to get really heavy. There is thunder and blowing now and it's pretty much a white out.

Obliqua, you're right. I'd have been playing out in this for hours by now. All of the radiators in the house would have been covered with my first two pairs of socks, gloves and what else. Kids today and their parents are very different.
