Pacific NW folks- very sad news to share - MichaelZ

Frederick, MD(Zone 6a)

My heart just broke early this morning when I received word from his SO who lives in Iowa that he had a tragic accident. I am so profoundly saddened. "Z" was a true friend to me. Really at a loss for words right now...our communications were more via e-mail rather than dmail and his last one to me was Friday morning around 11 am. I know he had many friends on this forum.

What?!? Oh my goodness. My heart goes out to his family. I, too, feel a sense of loss at his passing.

Thank you, Dea, for sharing this.

That link didn't work for me. Try this one. What a strange accident.

That is just terrible. I am so sad for his family. There must be more such cisterns insufficiently closed off and covered. It makes me wonder what people are thinking when they do that.

Vancouver, WA(Zone 8a)

Oh, how sad and shocking. My heart goes out to all his friends and family. I'm afraid I didn't know Michael much at all, but from his posts, he seemed like a very interesting person. I'm disappointed I'll never have a chance to meet him in person. I enjoyed seeing his posts.

What a particularly awful thing to happen to a gardener-it's like having your garden turn on you!

edited because I get goofy late at night...

Dea - Is his SO a member of DG?

Kalispell, MT(Zone 4b)

How horrible to be in such a helpless slow death. Michael we wish we were there to help. Sorry my friend.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6a)

member yes, subscriber, no.

Her name is Jean and her DG name is jackofspades.

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

Thanks, Dea. If you talk to her, please let her know that she's in our thoughts. I can't imagine how hard this must be for her.

Benton, KY(Zone 7a)

Does anyone here know of an image posted here of him? I want to start a Memory Garden thread and was trying to find a picture.

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

You have d-mail.

Benton, KY(Zone 7a)

Dmail for me?

Frederick, MD(Zone 6a)

Z didn't post any photos of himself here. I've asked Jean if we can use one we have, but have not heard back from her yet. He had his favorite photo though that Jean and I both agree showed his sense of humor. Not sure if that would be appropriate or not. I'm just heartbroken still

Benton, KY(Zone 7a)

Is she traveling?

I've found the one on his website, and that is the one that the newspaper used. Id like to get something up, but images can't be changed or added to the initial post after we get it live.

Yes, sorry Melody, for you. I think a favorite landscape image of his would be nice, as well.

Jean may also be looking around for something. If she's like me, her favorite photos are not digital.

I'm sorry, Dea. It is overwhelming.

Benton, KY(Zone 7a)

I think I'll go ahead and use a landscape image he posted not long ago. It was quite pretty...and if we get one of him, we'll post it in the thread

Sounds good to me.
