I recently got a pack of seeds for this plant>

That was purchased in November 2008. Any advice on getting these seeds to germinate?

Ginger Newbie needs help!
I've never grown ginger from seeds, but Thompson & Morgans Seed Database says they are hard coat seeds, will need soaking, starting in hand hot water for at least 24 hr. Also if you have a pair of cuticle scissors or an xacto knife, you can nick the seed coat and soak. After their soak you want to sow them in a peat based potting mix no deeper than the depth of the seed but make sure they are covered. Temperature in the upper 70's to low 80's. I use a heating pad. Can take up to a month to germinate.
They probably will not bloom the first year as they need to make rhizomes.

Welcome. If you do a lot of growing from seed, here is a link to a copy of the Thompson & Morgan Seed Database. I adapted it to ms word so it can be printed on regular paper and bound. Click on the link and save the file.

It's an invaluable source of information about germinating seeds for specific genus.

Welcome .. i use it constantly .. it's especially useful for seeds that require multiple periods of chilling and warming for breaking dormancy.
