Ginger Newbie needs help!

I recently got a pack of seeds for this plant>

That was purchased in November 2008. Any advice on getting these seeds to germinate?

I've never grown ginger from seeds, but Thompson & Morgans Seed Database says they are hard coat seeds, will need soaking, starting in hand hot water for at least 24 hr. Also if you have a pair of cuticle scissors or an xacto knife, you can nick the seed coat and soak. After their soak you want to sow them in a peat based potting mix no deeper than the depth of the seed but make sure they are covered. Temperature in the upper 70's to low 80's. I use a heating pad. Can take up to a month to germinate.

They probably will not bloom the first year as they need to make rhizomes.

Welcome .. i use it constantly .. it's especially useful for seeds that require multiple periods of chilling and warming for breaking dormancy.
