Little babies first night out.

Conroe, TX

We have 3 babies that are Silkie Cochin mixes. Two look much more Cochin and one looks very Silkie, two are hens and one is a roo (been crowing already and has comb and wattles). They are about 2-1/2 months old now. We had been bringing them in at night because it has been very cold and they would sleep in the kitty carrier that doubles as a chick home. Last night it wasn't as cold as its been so we left them in their little house (not the carrier) in the pen they are in during the day. Well, this morning my husband found one escapee on the back porch by the back door. Somehow it got out of the house and came to the door. Probably scratching the door all night saying "let me in" (kidding there of course). I think tonight we will put the kitty carrier inside their house, and make sure the door is well shut, maybe that will get them more used to being in their house at night.

The picture is of two of them, one is hiding her face.

Very cute! I can just picture the little chicken scratching the door with her little foot saying "please, please let me in"

Poor baby!
Bring them up here & put them in with ours. It has only got to -29º & they are surviving fine. Ours are the same age.

yep me too. Fixing to put out the baby Black Copper Marans in the cage with the Sebrights. They do have a heat light

He said the other two were on the porch too by the window. They had all three escaped and came to the house. Last night we put them back in the kitty/chicken carrier and put them on the washer again. Just didn't have the heart to put them outside, it was rainy and cold all night. They were probably sitting in there smiling saying "ah back where we belong".

Countrygardens -29 is mighty cold. We haven't gotten that cold...and won't. We have gotten into the teens with a chill factor in single digits but no negatives. All our chickens are doing well with the cold....better than me, lol.

oh the poor babies. Mine are scared. The Roo keeps attacking them but I don't have anywhere else to put them yet. If not for all the rain today and tomorrow their new cage would have gotten finished.
