Can someone tell me a quick homemade solution for the Hummingbirds? Since all my Hummer plants have been frozen I was thinking I would try putting a feeder out in case they are still around. I know the colored stuff is no good for them.
Hummingbird Help
1 cup tap water to 1/3 cup regular old sugar. Stir it well Some suggest boiling and letting it cool. I usually do that because it makes me feel good. No food coloring. No brown sugar. Some also suggest only 1/4 cup sugar. It is a good idea to wash the feeder on a regular basis because they do get moldy.
That has been my practice for years. I have happy hummers all year long. We have Anna hummers that hang out during the winter and demand that I keep the feeders filled.
I've always done 1:4 one cup sugar to 4 cups water.
Thanks to you both. I placed the feeder out, but so far the only takers are bees....but I'm sure they are hungry too!
Build it and they will come. :-)
