Roo &/or hens
I see one pullet in the second picture---but one roo in the first and one in the background of the second.....
Looks right to me.
What breed are they?
Black Copper Marans. They have wonderful feathering on their feet
That is perfect if I have 1 roo and 3 hens
Getting more eggs though. 2 sets BCM of replacements from 2 different breeders. 1 set took 10 days priority 2 hatched out but one died , one died in shell after pipping. i think the one that died with the crop problem was from this set. Next set zero hatch 5 days and ice cold on arrival also the same for a set of bantam SQ Araucana that arrived with them. Now I have to see if I can get all 3 breeders to reship Friday or Saturday while we will only be at a low of 40 and high in mid to upper 50's at least through Tuesday on my end. Wish me luck
I think you people who hatch your own are very brave. Much luck!
PP I would rather buy chicks or starters but shipping is so darn high
That is wonderful! I had three Wheaton Penedescenca pullets and one Rooster from a hatch....I was so thrilled. Until I realised I couldn't keep them once the roo started crowing....
How old are your chicks? I just hatched some Cuckoo Marans chicks. Only three hatched, due to my inexperience. However, there was a mix up with the breeder and she thought she sent me a couple of Cooper blue Marans eggs. I think I have two Cuckoos and one Cooper blue. Of course I hope for all hens! I will send pictures, they are really cute!
Donna you were talking about the cost of shipping chicks being so high, but let me tell you from experience that buying eggs is in the long run just as high if not higher. Generally with chicks if you ship them in decent weather your going to get them in good shape. With eggs you have to deal with breeders who are questionable at best, eggs that get damaged in shipment, eggs that never were fertile, and many that drastically over charge people who have no clue about their less than decent integrity. No thanks, I'll pay for the chicks every time.
I may just do it if the eggs I get Mon or Tuesday don't do well but BCM chicks are very high plus the high shipping. I have 8 to 10 replacement eggs each from 2 different breeders. If I can get 3 or 4 chicks from each set I will be happy. That way if I decide to let mine breed they won't be inbred/close relations because my chickens will be from 3 different breeders
Hey Donna if you are not satisfied with the results of the eggs that are shipped to you, let me know and I will refer you to a good breeder to deal with for chicks at a fair price. Hay
Thanks Hay
