That's what the plant marker said. I'm just the keeper. The plant is about a year old. Something new is going on. Could the three new growths be flower stems? They have followed a modest medium adjustment to slightly acid about Thanksgiving last fall. They are moving out from and up from leaves...not the medium.
NIGHT BLOOMING WHITE CEREUS
It is just trying to climb. They live in trees in there native counties.

Thank you both. I guess I shall just have to wait a while to see what is going on.
Mine as you see it is about a year old. I had it outside last summer and fed it various light teas including aerobic finished compost tea weekly. Inside I have leaned it towards a very mildly acidic medium and cut the feeding in half from the outside rate of feeding. It appears to me to be in a healthy state of growth rather than being with evidence of chemically induced long celled growth. In all instances from the medium to feeding I have treated this plant organically.
It's not a finicky plant and likes to be neglected. Tends to have grow th in the warmer days - outside.
One year, I forgot to take it in when it dropped below 32 and the leaves were damaged and went to mushed but the plant survived. Now, I bring them in when it's in the low 30's. Don't want to risk that again.
I have the mother plant in the green house. Keep forgetting this one. I am getting old!!!! LOL

Is tea and coffee grounds good for orchid cactus to mix in their growing medium. I'm new at this and want to start collecting these beauties.
docgipe, your plant looks exactly like mine which just flowered last week. I have been given the ID as oxypetalum. If you look behind the flower, you will see one of those stems. I have found that this plant will grow them and suddenly shoot out leaves from the top of the stem. As mentioned above , it is its way of climbing . Contrary to what I have read, mine had very little scent . Maybe the cooler area I live in down here.
Jean.
THANK YOU JEAN............My "up-shoot" growths have formed leaves at their tips. Now all along the stem small white or cream colored root like growths are appearing. At the same time the bulk of the plant seems to be at rest. Your assessment seems to be correct. I suggest that this new growth is acting like the object of the plant and perhaps could be called the "sink" into which presently at least all energy appears to be directed. If that is correct then it might be expected that the bloom would appear in relationship to this new growth too. I have very much enjoyed the watch.
Standing by with camera in hand while "mother" attempts to educate me. LOL
It is interesting to see how these plants grow differently. My plant with the flower was part of a plant from an old garden. the pot was broken and when I went to repot, one of those long thin stems broke off. Not knowing much about these plants at the time , I just stuck it in a pot too. It eventually grew leaves from the top. Looked a bit funny with the leaves coming from the top of a long thin stem but it is now quite large , looking more like a normal plant.
This is the bud of the above flower. The flower stayed open until around 11.30 am the next morning , then slowly closed.

Docgipe: Your plant looks young yet to be ready to bloom. I have had plant starts bloom however in their 1st and 2nd year of growth! The horizontal shoots, as you have found out, are new growth layering and may bloom in several years. Don't think you'll see anything before then. Blooms usually spring from old growth. bob
