Is this plant a Hoya, or something else instead?

Westminster, CO(Zone 5a)

I "found" this plant at my son's house. At first I thought it was a Hoya, then I decided it might be some sort of Philodendron, and now I just don't know! The leaves are really thick, like a Hoya's, but the stems seem more fleshy than most of the Hoyas that I am familiar with - not that I am at all a Hoya expert! Maybe these pictures will help you help me identify the plant. (Note that the yellow leaves are not "normal -" I think the plant was over-watered."

It would help if I had included the picture. :-o

Also - noob question - is there any way to include more than one picture, or do I need to post each one separately?

I want to say it is a Pepperomia...but not 100% sure.

You need to keep replying to yourself to keep posting pictures.

Thanks, threegardeners.

Here's another picture...It does look a bit like a Peperomia, doesn't it?

I so wanted this to be a Hoya variety but I think you are both correct - this is a Peperomia of some sort. Thank you both for your help!

Hoyas usually have opposite rather than alternate leaves. Although I have a Hoya that's producing alternate leaves on one stem (left side of photo) and opposite leaves on the other stems.

Oldpepper: I don't have any of the really fancy Hoya's but when the weather warms up in spring I will be glad to send you some cuttings of ones I have.

That would be wonderful! I would love to add to my small Hoya collection - nothing fancy here either. Our last addition came from King Soopers (local grocery store,) a Hoya carnosa "variegata," certainly not rare. :) Any cuttings would be much appreciated, and just maybe we might have something you are interested in.

Thank you very much for the offer.

You are very welcome. I will make a note in my trade-tracker, and you can keep me informed through D-Mail of when you think your weather has warmed up enough to ship!

RRM: I hope you will share a picture of the bloom when it opens! I love the looks of linearis but wasn't able to keep it alive for long at all! I think I gave it way too much water. Here's an old thread from awhile back where some of us were discussing linearis: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/913341/

thank You , I will read it. I don't water my other hoya I got but I do mist it. It is the Varigated "Krissom Queen" That is what I have on my tag it hasn't bloomed since last year. When it does I'll get you a pic of it too.

I also have the Hoya carnosa Tricolor ("Krimsom Queen"): http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/57703/

It's one of the more commonly found Hoyas and one of my favorites because it's so easy - seems to thrive on neglect, and the blooms are so pretty. I've heard some say the blooms are fragrant but I've never detected any fragrance on mine ... it could be my nose though. I have an Epiphyllum oxypetalum which everyone says smells wonderful, and my husband said it was extremely fragrant ... but I couldn't smell a thing!

I have one of te Krimsom Queen hanging over my kitchen sink. It has bloomed but I can't remember it having a scent. I have a sensitive smeller most of the time. It must have overlooked it☺ But the blooms were pretty and lasted a long time. I read about the Linearis, now I'm afraid it may not make it. I got it at Wal-mart. I thought i found a treasure. I hope so. They had several. This should have a picture of it.

H. linearis is really a pretty Hoya. I love the long, thin foliage on that one ... it just didn't like me. I bought mine on line from the Exotic Angel website and it was a beautiful large, full basket. It lived about two or three weeks under my care. The EA site still has it for sale and it sure is tempting to buy another one to try again, LOL.

More images of H. linearis so you can see what the blooms look like: http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&source=hp&q=hoya+linearis&um=1&ie=UTF-8&ei=RWROS7XkL8yutgfTtfDkDA&sa=X&oi=image_result_group&ct=title&resnum=1&ved=0CBgQsAQwAA

ooooo, it is really pretty in your pictures. Thank you. Check out wal-mart.
Do you have one in your area? They are shipping them in now. They haven't had them very long.
This one cost $11.00 I didn't that was too bad.

(Zone 1)

Wow, $11.00 isn't bad at all! We have three Wal-Mart Super Centers here, two of them are only about a mile away! A few years ago I used to find the Exotic Angel plants at Wal-Mart, Home Depot, Lowes and Target but last year none of them carried any Hoyas, or else they were all grabbed up before I got there, LOL. I haven't checked the past couple of months but I have to go to Wal-Mart tomorrow so I will look while I'm there!

Let me know. I hope they have them. That is what it is too. An Exotic Angel. Home depot here don't have that large an assortment of plants now. But love to go to Macon to a Lowes they have down there. They had some beautiful bromaliads amd some were in small pots. I would rather have the plants in smaller pots. They seem to survive better. I enjoy watching them grow.
