I have a Oregon Scientific 433MHZ cable free,since about 1996.
It has worked wonderful for 16 yrs or more, now I can't get a reading from it,just says HH.H.
I went to there web site, they don't carry that model any more, further more they don't even have a download for that manual either.
But under there F&Q section I found on other models that the HH.H means either the outside temperature is over a 133*,or the dew point is over 98% relative humidity.
Right now neither is the case for getting that reading.
I put new batteries in both the remote and the base thermometer, and a reading came up on both of them right away,so I thought it was fixed, few minutes later,it went back to reading HH.H again, does anyone ever have a problem like this with there remote sensors?
BTW,I keep my remote in the center of the greenhouse,is that were everyone else keeps there as well?
Remote Thermometers
I don't have that brand, but I've a similar thing happen with my sensors (and only after a year or two of use). One time I forgot and left one in the GH all summer and it basically got fried, the other time I'm not sure what happened, but I had the sensor in an outdoor area (outside the GH) that got a bit too much direct moisture on it when I watered my plants so I figured that was what did it. In both cases I tried putting new batteries in, but nothing worked so I just bought new sensors. So if yours have been exposed to extremely high/low temperatures or too much water it's possible the electronic parts inside no longer work quite right.
I have 4 more different brands and models, but 2 are outside, under plastic greenhouses over a palm and a yuzu lemon tree, that are planted in the ground,so I can see how cold it gets,in there little greenhouses, and the other 2 are in other greenhouses, the one that quit working came out of the sunroom.
Guess I'll have to get another one!
I know it never got wet,and it never got to hot in there as well, just wore out like me!!!LOL
I wouldn't give up just yet--wait a little and see if someone who has the same brand can share their experience. Mine were a different brand and they were exposed to conditions it sounds like yours hasn't been so it's possible your problem is fixable. Definitely possible that they just wore out since they're old though--electronic gadgets don't always last long!
Tropicman - that sounds like a long time for a remote thermometer to last, I'm impressed! I don't have that type, but I have had what seemed like a similar problem and it turned out the indoor unit had gotten onto a different "channel" (it can use more than one remote sensor). Not sure if I had pushed a button accidentally or what, but I was ready to throw the thing out when I more or less accidentally discovered what the problem was. With mine I also have to use a certain sequence when replacing the batteries so they can synchronize, as well. (Take batteries out of the remote sensor, clear the channel for that sensor on the main unit, reinstall the batteries into the remote sensor and press a button - marked as "TX" on my unit - to synchronize the units.) I doubt that yours would be exactly the same (mine is an Acu-Rite) but maybe clearing the channel for the sensor would be the key, and/or maybe there is a button for synchronizing. Hope this may be of some help!
Sandy
Hi Sandy,
Yes I have a Acu-Rite brand as well, and they have worked great for about 10 yrs now.
Yep I tried that as well with the Organ brand, and it did bring the temperatures up but only for a minute or two and went right back to showing the HH.H reading again.
I'm waiting to hear back from the maker, and see what they say before I buy another one.
It may be just the remote sensor since I do get a reading of the inside room, just not from the remote sensor.
But as long as I've had this one, sure can't complain,I didn't get my monies worth!
I have a remote thermometer from Wal-Mart, so far it has worked fine. Once in a while I will get a blank reading, but not often, wonder if it is the humidity level in the greenhouse. But for $10, I can afford to replace it. But thanks for the idea to take it down this summer. Anybody have help for nats in greenhouse, I had a couple , now more than a few.
Try letting your plants go dry on top before you water again, also gets some Bayer complete, walmart carries it.
adding peroxide to your water helps a lot and doesn't have any adverse affect on the plants. I use 1-2 oz per gallon with all my waterings. Especially good with helping stop" damping off " also.
