herbal moth repellant

Panama, NY(Zone 5a)

Does anyone have a good, tested recipe? I'm cleaning closets and while I don't think I have a problem, I'd sincerely like to avoid one.

Not a tested recipe but my herbal books have some recommendations. One is a pomander made with cloves. Cloves being the main repellant for moths and a wonderful smell too.

Two other recipes were for herbal moth bags.

1) Using 2 cups of dried lavender flowers, 1 cup dried tansy leaves, 2 cups dried southernwood, 2 crushed cinnamon sticks, 1 tsp orris root. Mix all together and bag in burlap securing the necks. Hang in wardrobes or place in drawers.

or

2) Equal parts of lavender, dried tansy leaves or costmary leaves. Secure in cloth bags. Effective for 6 months.

I have used lavender, southernwood artemisia and tansy together in sachet bags in storage boxes of winter-wool clothes. Seems to work. Hanging them in the closet is less effective as the scent is not as strong. No moth infestations in many years.
