A Blue Jay grabbing a shelled peanut oblivious to the Cooper's Hawk feasting in the garden along the fenceline...
An odd "feeding" moment...
Probably knew the hawk was there and not hungry - jays are intelligent enough to judge the hawk's behaviour and know whether it is a risk or not

He was safe since the Hawk already was enjoying lunch. I love the way the Hawks will soar around the skies calling to each other, making sure everyone knows where they are....but whenever on the hunt they are deadly silent and seem to come out of nowhere.
I have seen some birds caught unaware. They will stay very still and hide. I saw a woodpecker once, keep on the other side of the tree from a hawk. He was really shaking in his feathers.
