Goodbye, Peppy

New Orleans, LA(Zone 9a)

I was at my Mom's early this morning & went outside to feed her 2 American Bulldogs. Peppy, a 110 pound female, stayed in her house. When I went to pet her, I found her dead. She was about 11 years old & we thought in relatively good health. I asked Mom if she had seen Peppy yesterday, but she couldn't remember (My Mom's 85). The temps last night were in the mid 30's - cold for New Orleans, but the dogs should have been OK in their dog houses.

Well, my DH & I will bury her this afternoon. I'll probably go to the SPCA tomorrow to look for another dog. I don't want to get her a little puppy since Mom can't really handle a puppy. I guess something around a year old, probably a pit bull/rottweiler/shepherd mix. Mom has a large inner city yard & needs the dogs for protection. We've never had any problems with put bulls since we raise them with a lot of love & affection. But they do make good watch dogs.

This was the only pic I could find of peppy, taken after the Katrina floods. She was about 5 years old then.
