I want to build a raised bed for vegetable gardening and will be putting it on burmuda grass. I thought about spraying the grass with round up to kill the grass before I fill the bed with soil. How long would I have to wait before filling the bed and planting veggies? Is this a good idea or NOT???
Thanks for help from anyone.

RAISED BED
Not an expert on killing Bermuda grass, but been perusing these theads a couple years now. Most would place a thick layer of cardboard on the spot to smother off the grass. Then start layering your compost material and your garden soil. You can plant immediately. Don't know bout the waiting time over the Roundup. In prep For your next bed, lay your weedcloth and cardboard ahead of Time 2 begin smothering off your grass. Hope this helps. You might also xpost you ? In the veggie Growers forum. Linda
It will probably take several applications of RoundUp to kill the Bermuda. That being said ,RoundUp has no afterlife in the soil, so you could plant imediately. I would go with the RoundUp, followed by the cardboard, or layers of newspaper, then start filling the bed with soil/compost. RoundUP has to come in contact with the growing plant in order to be absorbed into the roots. With Bermuda there will be roots that have no leaves yet, and they will sprout later, hence several applications are needed.
Good luck, Carol
