She is ready to serve her country any way she can.Her new hensaver, this one is great it is in two parts it has velcro on the shoulder part so you can remove it when the feathers on the wings grow back.We are going to get some really severe cold weather and winds for the nect two days, high of 4 and with the winds way down below 0, 45 mile an hour wind gusts.BRRRRR.She never grew back her feathers fully on the top part of her winds and on her back, that rooster really done a job on his favorite girls and its been months since he has been gone.
I`m ready for duty
That is sooooo cool! Do you suppose she will be less visible to hawks?
Hope so we have a lot of them around.
how in the world do you get her to keep it on?
I love her jacket! I didn't realize hens could have such large combs. If someone had asked me, I would have said that's a roo....lol. I learn something new here everyday.
My other girls have on saddles and they leave them on.The saddles I got form modene on here she makes them and I have no problem with the hens leaving them on.She is a golden comet a sex link, they all have big combs like that,I have 13 of them and they are great brown ,large ,everyday egg layers. And they are small and only weigh about three or four pounds. Here is another golden comet with her saddle on.Some of them they just never grew back the back feathers from the over zealous rooster last spring.
Green, what is the interesting looking block? We have pasture blocks for the stock - a chicken block?
Yes its called a flock block made by purina. Its full of grains and other things, very hard and weighs about 20 or so pounds. The chickens love it and its great this time of year to keep them from being board and picking on one another. It takes a long while for them to eat it all.I had one all summer outside for them(under cover)I heard about it on here last spring and got my feed supplier to order some and she can`t keep them in.I think if you go on purina and type in flock block you can find out what is in it.
Thanks, Green. It looks yummy - from a chicken point of view at least.
