I grew open pollinated pumpkin seeds last summer and once the pumpkins were mature, the instructions I have said to pick them and let them sit outside for 3 weeks so the seeds would finish maturing. I did that……but forgot about them. Now it’s 20 some degrees and snowy here in Michigan and I am wondering if the seeds inside the pumpkins are still good??? Should I go get them, thaw them out, and harvest the seeds??? Thanksgiving came and then the Christmas rush……. I forgot all about them. **sigh** :(
I forgot all about them. :( Are they still good????
Go on Glenda. Have a go and let us know the results. Half the fun of gardening is trying things out. It's particularly good when people tell you "it won't work", and it does. If it doesn't, you've lost nothing.
Glenda, I'm no expert on this, but I think your seeds will still be fine. I'd thaw them out, take out the seeds and clean and dry them, then do a trial germination with 10 or 20 seeds.

Good idea Sandy! Thanks! I'll give it a try and let you all know if they germinate. I'll bring them in just as soon as these 20 degree - 40mph winds stop blowing the snow around! Ugh!!! .....Wish me luck! :)

LOL, it's a beautiful day in the neighborhood here in da UP, too! (at least the sun was shining for part of the day and the temp in my greenhouse got up into the 60s) Spring will be here before you know it!
Sandy
I still have pumpkins I harvested (Sugar Sweet) sitting on my windowsill! I need to do something with them as well!
Glenda ~ I feel certain they will be fine. Pumpkin is a normal crop grown in your zone. In days past, pumpkins left in the field over winter would reseed and sprout vines when the warm weather came in spring.
I will certainly give it a shot! :) Wish me luck!
Glenda, you may want to put you seeds in the crisper of the frig 1st, to allow them to thaw slowly or they may think its spring and sprout.
Thanks for the heads up!! I'll do that! :) ......I'd be really bummed if they all sprouted!!! :-[
