I have to share my beautiful new barn with folks that will appreciate it. Most of my family just doesn't get it.....but then again, they are not the farm type. I love this barn! It's big enough for my sheep and goatgals, a workshop for hubby and a studio for me. You should see the shack my poor gals have been living in for the last couple years, horrid!
Now I would like some good ideas for a wall hung hay rack that doesn't waste so much feed, anyone?
A wonderful new Barn!
Barny-farmy heaven, Bluebunn...most definitely!!
What are you trying to feed and how is your hay baled??
WOW I am in barn heaven looking at it... Very nice..
Super nice!
D
wow! that is very nice.
I've heard several people talking about buying one of those flexible fence panels and wrapping it around a round bale, or hanging it somehow with square bale/s in...
I feed square bails, Right now I am using a big trough, but you know how goats love to climb inside of those, waste, waste, everywhere. So i am looking to build something that will attach to the wall with just enough room for them to put their heads in.
Oh you must be so happy with your new barn, its really nice.
I think hanging a cattle panel up might work well for you. You double it and hang it just above their heads. Or mount some of one on a wall...it's soft enough they can't climb it and the openings are big enough to get noses in...just have to be able to insert hay...
They have what you decribed for horses, and they also have hanging bags, but not sure if that would work. The feeders have bars running up and down so the mouth can get in there, and if it has a cover, they cant flip it up. Plus it has a shelf on the bottem for grains and such, I will try and find you a link.
Wow, gorgeous barn. I love the colour of the roof and the design is just gorgeous.
We use cattle panels and you can mount them on an angle to the wall like this

Then the goats or sheep feed through the holes in the cattle panel and you just put flakes in the top, which should be open. It works well for our mini goats and sheep. For tall goats, I don't know if it would be too hard to get it so that you could access the top to put in the bales without making it so that they could reach the top. You would know best from your "standing goat" heights!
Thank you all so much! I think we will try the cattle panels, our coop should have them.
Love the barn!!! Looks like pine and I love the look of pine. Not only beautiful, but very practical, I'm happy for you. Enjoy an keep us posted to what goes on in that beauty. Well most of what goes on...LOL Hay
WOWSER that is a fairytale barn... mi mi mi
♫ Fairytales do come true
It could happen to you ....♫
Suffering serious barn envy.....
Catscan, I'm with you. The closest thing we have to a barn is our storage shed. Can't really have a barn in the city, though one of our neighbors have a house that is shaped like a barn.
Well, I do have a barn but not a barn like that! Both beautiful and well designed, I'm envious too.
I was reading about building a hay rack for my goats. The design is a "V" shaped feeder with solid side panels of plywood. The goats feed through key hole shapes cut in the plywood panels. The idea is that the goats are social eaters and like to drag hay out and stand around watching others eat. They waste hay like that so the key hole design prevents them from dragging hay out other than what is in their mouth. There should be one key hole for each goat. Hope this helps. Love the barn. You are a very lucky farmer! :)
Gosh, beautiful barn and beautiful setting! Thanks for posting the photo.
It is gorgeous!
What a lovely barn! I know you're going to enjoy it a LOT! :-)
About hay feeders, there are several that I've found work pretty good . I like the ones with the rebar going up and down far enough apart to let them get a mouthful but not their heads in. Rusty built me some wooden mangers in one barn with 2 x 4 uprights that slope down to a 1x6 on the bottom & hang against the wall. It works really well for us (plus the babies like to lay underneath them. If they have horns you've got to be careful of the feeders you use as they get their heads IN and then can't get them OUT. (cattle panels are notorious for this) I do use the panels but cut a LOT of big holes & they do pretty good. Have to rescue one once in a while (and some really dumb ones more often! LOL) If you take a section of one though, and hang it from a wall at an angle, you won't have any trouble as they won't be able to get high enough to get their heads inside, just their noses to eat the hay. For my round bales, I put the panels with the cut outs around it tight, then an old satellite dish on top to keep the rain off. It actually works very well!
wow lucky you. That looks great
Yes, I agree, serious barn envy. I totally get it. Wow! One can only dream.....
I want your barn.
I was raised on a farm and we had a huge barn. Can't beleive Dad sold the place after I got married.
I want goats and chickens, and chickens and goats and a place to make goat milk soap and farm eggs and etc.
Lavina
Lavina, I am happy to say that there is more than enough room for all my sheep and goats, my little hens and roosters, my 4 geese and my 5 ducks! Even our big old dog can live up here if he so desires.I never thought I would have a great big barn like this, I would've been happy with half the size, but my husband thinks BIG, so I have him to thank for the barn. Bless his heart!
I think your husband is the greatest!
This barn is absolutely beautiful!!!
