Hard to believe, but Wichita Falls and surrounding area has 9-10 inches of snow. Actually I wonder how they managed to measure that -- it was so windy! We have drifts 4 feet tall. I was beginning to think we were back in Montana. Only difference -- here, everything was shut down. All Christmas church services were cancelled. Life stopped and those that didn't heed the warnings to stay off the roads found out the hard way -- they slipped off the roads. Before the snow feel, rain and sleet covered the grounds. Cars were stranded everywhere. Family gatherings didn't happen. It was a very interesting day. Today farm tractors are trying to help stranded cars on our road (A tractor actually got stuck attempting this on Christmas Eve.) Thankfully this tractor-guy also cleaned the 3-4' drifts in our driveway, hopefully we will be able to get to church this weekend.
Never once when singing that song, "I'm dreaming of a "white" Christmas. . ." did I dream it would mean a total shut-down. Only in Texas!
We had/have a white Christmas!
Not just Texas, OKC too. We had people leave their vehicles in the middle of the road.
My heart goes out to the emergency workers that had to work harder on Christmas to rescue those that just couldn't stay home. I am sure the kiddos enjoyed the snow storm but were hoping it would have been while school was in session.
I know we just aren't as prepared in the south but I hope there was nothing worse than inconvenience. Minnesota native here and I don't want to see any of that white stuff!!!
Not only are we having snow problems with the nasty streets, but I just get a call from my daughter -- they are on the way to the hospital -- baby is trying to get here in time to see the white stuff. He is due Jan 5th. I told her that just cause she came in the midst of a ice storm many years ago doesn't mean her baby needs to come in the midst of a snow storm. No way I can get to the hospital to help her push.
Prayers appreciated for a safe and healthy delivery.
False alarm for the baby -- which in my opinion is a good thing -- keep that little guy inside where it is nice and warm and let him get his last week or so of nurishment from Mamma.
That's great that it was a false alarm. I'm keeping her and the baby in my prayers.
Thank you Tina!
Well this week isn't much better for a trip to the hospital.....how are you doing on the baby situation?
Our baby made his appearance on Sunday -- after giving Mom questionable contractions for almost a week. Then once he decided it was time -- he wasted none. She delivered within 1 hour of arriving at the hospital, weighing 7lbs and 15 oz., 20" long. And of course, adorable! It is amazing how a newborn can totally mesmerize us. Both are well and home now being entertained by the 4 older siblings. One big happy, healthy family. Thanks for your interest.
Glad that they made it to the hospital and all is well with the family.
It is 14 or so here but good thing is no moisture. Only one more day and we will have a heat wave above freezing! YEA!
Heat wave! This cold has gotten to us. Come Jully/August, we'll be saying, "Remember when we were covered in snow?"
I too am so ready for warmth -- we are measuring 52° as I type. And sunshine -- I'm loving it. Thinking about getting some tomato plants started.
