Tired of sticky tape residue

Chicago, IL

I think someone wrote about this before but I can't find it so forgive me if it's a repeat. I have been using tape on my pots but I don't like it very much. Clear tape won't come off easily and masking tape sometimes leaves a horrible residue that I would rather not have to remove. Did someone mention another kind of tape that won't cause the sticky residue problems?

i don't use tape, i use a sharpie marker on pots sometimes, or i use a plant pick, but i can wash the marker off the pot with a scrubbie when i repot.i hate tape because of the residue.

Tape residue come off soo easily with a small bit of starter fluid. Like the kind you use on old cars with a carburetor. Just spray a touch on an old rag and wipe. No scrubbing needed.

Soft scrub takes it off for me. Cleans the pots really well at the same time.

I remember someone using some other kind of tape that they said didn't leave the residue. I've tried some cleaning methods and it's just more work than I want or it involves things I don't keep in my house.

Try painter's tape - no residue for me. To remove the old tape residue, try peanut butter or GooGone.

Maybe that was what someone else used Painters tape. I just know I like tape and I don't want to remove residue. I have goo gone and you are right it does work but I just do not like doing it. I am spoilt maybe and I want it easy lol. In all seriousness, I have too many things to do lately and just don't have the patience I should have for things like this. It was a type of tape that someone else used so I'll try the painters tape Kay.

Good luck with it.

I read somewhere that they used white electrical tape. I looked for it but could only find the black. Maybe you can find it where you live. I just write on white or clear cups with sharpie and use alcohol to wipe the name off. Most of the time I just toss the used cup and use new one. I'm not rich but lazy. LOL

oh electrical tape makes sense too. I think I've seen it in other colors but am not sure. I'll look for both of these. I was thinking and wondering if there is freezer tape because it seems like someone once mentioned it. I imagine I'll find one of these and it will be perfect.

I've seen that white medical tape used too but I don't know if it leaves a residue or not. I use a sharpie marker to write on some of my pots - and on some pots that I washed and reuse, I've put some rubbing alcohol on a paper towel and rubbed the writing to "erase" the ink. Sometimes have to hold the towel on the ink a minute to get it to start working and it doesn't work on every pot. I like the white stake like labels so I can see at a glance the name of the plant.

me too. i use the stakes mostly all the time.

I don't like the stakes because you have to keep them from messing up the leaves. I have had leaves cut by them and bent. They also fall out and sometimes you forget the name of the plant. Everyone has different ways to do it though.

I also don't like the stakes for labeling because they are either in the way or they fall out and then I'm confused but I love them for propping up momma leaves. That idea of medical tape is interesting it's very thin and comes off of skin without leaving any sticky residue.

White medical tape will leave residue. Love the idea of painters tape and electrical tape. Imadigger I do like you you do with the cups. I am lazy LOL :)
