Aren't these reindeer?
My Aggie SIL (who despises all things UT) thinks I'm trying to torture him by decorating the table with Christmas Longhorns. I honestly bought these as reindeer. Not that I'm above torture.....I once watered and Miracle-Gro'd a 5' UT in his lawn, but that's another story. Where's his Christmas Spirit??????
Just for the Holidays...you be the judge....
Shorten the ears and add more prongs to the hor... sorry antlers ... and you have reindeer. LOL. How long did it take for the UT to disappear from his lawn. That had to have been a sight to see when he realized what the extra lush grass spelled.
Forgot to add a photo of a reindeer for comparison.

Well, SIL is a commercial landscape architect....so when he decided not to water the St. Augustine a few hot Sept.s ago...I mentioned that it would probably green up with a little water. He figured it was dormant already, so why bother. MY DD and I were chatting and I told her that I thought she should water one small space and show him that it was still green grass. She suggested I do it! I decided I'd write "HI" in the side yard. DD said, "No, write "UT." And so I did...when I went to the cleaners, the grocery, the library, the mall.... I'd drop by and water a spot about 5' tall. Into Oct., the color was really coming in. SIL didn't notice it because he was leaving early and coming home late. Neighbors could all see it in the front/side yard. We were all getting impatient, so DH suggested I ramp it up and add fertilizer to the water. I had to cart a watering can around in my car so that I could get the "UT" green and gorgeous. One day, the UT swim coach that lived across the street from them, caught me. I told him if he ratted on me, I'd swear his team did it to impress their coach! I figured I was safe.
'Third week of Oct., SIL ran into the house to tell DD to come quick, some vandals had spray painted their yard. And she managed to tell him with a straight face that it looked more like it had been watered. And guess who he blamed? Me.... I just looked as innocent as I could and said I thought I knew who could have possibly done it, but didn't own up to it. Halloween night, Coach tells SIL how funny he thinks his MIL is......watering the grass everyday....
And since then I sleep with one eye open.
That is tame in comparison to your gift at the wedding reception of house keys. I still laugh at that.

Boy I wish you could meet my mother. She is 84 and has a "warped" since of humor too. Well actually my brother and sister and I do too. Guess we inherited it from her. Every year on Thanksgiving when my whole family gets together we take our "traditional" Thanksgiving group photo. We have more fun and many laughs during the year deciding what we are going to do. One year we all put bags over our heads!
This is our photo from this year. My Mom is the one in the red wig!
By the way she lives in Austin too.
Austinites DO have a reputation.......
Well, my UT undergrad son wants me to make some. So I'm going to go with a longhorn who's daddy may be a reindeer! Very cute! And I love the crystal on the table.
Happy Holidays to all!
that's hilarious, bobyrd! now, which one are you?????
terri.....I bought those at Big Lots for $6. ea. I don't think I coulda made 'em for that.. They also had Santas and Snowmen...
bigbubbles, I am the one in the housedress and orange apron with curlers in my gray wig!
By the way, my brother went to UT and I am hoping I can find some of those raindeer/longhorns for him!!
I guessed right! Such a lovely outfit you put together!! Looks like you have lots of fun!
And they're reindeer...not longhorns...even if they look sorta like longhorns....they're reindeer....
Christi...not sure how to link post about the keys. Will have to find it ....
Morning all! I needed that good laugh this a.m.. Bubbles ~ I'm thinking what you have there is the rare Texas Longdeer or is it Reinhorns... I think they are delightful.
Are you plotting revenge on the neighbor coach for letting it slip? If I had to guess, he should be the one sleeping with an eye open!
BoByrd ~ I love your family photo and I have a brother that will fit right in. One year, over 50 family members in the photo with grands, great grands, etc. He didn't think he would stand out in the photo so got up on the roof of the garage above us. He is 50+. "His Mother" was horrified when she saw the photo. Every year he does something a bit out of the ordinary. Sending him to ya.
Bubbles ~ links are easy. Find it, right click on the tool bar address. It will turn blue and give a drop down menu, select copy. Bring it to this thread. Right click and select paste from the menu. Easy assuming you use a similar operating system. Looking forward to reading it!
Have a good day all!
Thanks bigbubbles. Must check out Big Lots next time I am in Tyler.
Love the family photo as well. LOL!
Okay Pod....I'm going to try it.... This is from the wedding reception. And please remember, no one else had a key to my DD's condo before you read this......

I love it! Shall have to remember the keys and your link thingy worked! Tis easy enough.
So are you plotting your revenge on the neighbor coach for letting it slip?
Thanks again for the tutorial. As for Coach, he went off to coach the Olympic team and when he came back, they sold the house and moved to a gated community. I can't get to him without the entry code...... Coincidence? Maybe.......
Hope everyone's ready for Xmas. We're opening gifts this evening here with family and then going to DD's Xmas morning to watch DGS open his . Should be lots of fun, he believes in Santa! Merry Christmas
... and if he is a wise young man, he will always believe in Santa!
Coincidence? I think not. More like fear.
Merry Christmas to all!
Xmas Reindeer Update: To be sure SIL understood that those were reindeer and not longhorns at the table, I tagged each of them before Christmas Eve dinner.....Dasher, Comet, Cupid, Prancer, Vixen.........and Colt.
Speaking as a Red Raider fan, they do look like longhorns. I can also see them as reindeer. But still too much like longhorns. Not that I'm prejudiced or anything like that...
bigbubbles......
Love it. I knew my family wasn't the only crazy one out there in spite of what I had been told! We always have lots of fun whatever we do. Sometimes people look at us like we are a little strange. Can you imagine?
For my mother's 75th birthday we decided to have a family picture made, just my Mom, Stepdad, Brother, Sister and I and we went to Sears portrait studio. We had a nice traditional one made and then we all put on these crazy hats from my brother's collection. We didn't smile, had those sour looks on our faces like you see on those old tin type photos. There was a crowd gathered watching. It was hilarious.
It is good to have fun, makes life more bearable.
Next time you're going to be in Austin, let me know.....would love to meet you and your mom!
Great I will. I would love to see your garden but I'm betting it looks kind of sad and limp like mine does right now. I have high hopes that it will come back in the spring. I need to get busy and do some Wintersowing!
Yep, yard looks like an old Southern cemetery.....but instead of flowers, it's color comes from all the different colored sheets everyowhere. I lost some things that I thought were winter hardy too after all these years.
