Wanted: String of hearts

Dunmor, KY(Zone 6a)

I am looking for String Of hearts (also called Rosary Vine). I've actually had 2 differant cuttings from trades but have not rooted one yet :( I would love to either find one that is rooted or cuttings with info on how to root them. I have used rooting powder on the last one but that didn't help either.
I don't think I have any plants to trade. (Still new to gardening, as this is the first year I've planted anything) But I have a few differant kinds of seeds that I can trade. I'm willing to send all differant kinds of seeds in exchange. If anyone can help me with this plant, please let me know!

Edited to add: I do have a shell vine that I think is big enough for me to take a cutting from. (If someone can tell me how take cuttings...)

Dixielol,

When rooting String of Hearts/ Rosary vine cuttings.... make sure and place a leaf node under the soil. Only at the leaf node will it start making roots.

The node will start to make the tubers under the soil that you see on mature plants along the vine (Giving its common name Rosary Vine). If you have any of those tubers along any of your cuttings. You can put those in soil and it will root even faster.

Let me know if you have any more questions and I would be more than happy to try and help! :)

Sincerely,
Vanessa

Oh no! That's what I've been doing wrong! I didn't place the leave node under the plant. Ugg, if I just would've asked about a week or 2 ago, mine might not be dead :(
The vine seems completely dried up so I suppose there is no point in trying to replant it the correct way, right?
Thank you for the information. At least if I ever get another one I know what to do. Thanks so much for the info!

Hi Dixielol!

If it is completely cripsy dry then it is gone. But if the cutting is still bendable... I would give it a try!

what are the little ball things that grow on this plant!?

DeLand/Deleon Spring, FL(Zone 8b)

notmartha,
String of Pearls , which is similar to String of Hearts, has little green "Pearls" ( balls) and more roundish leaves but String of Hearts has a heart shaped leaf. Both produce a tiny flower and if grown out sidewill produce very viable seeds. I grow String of Hearts from seed. When the seed pods open they are similar to milkweed, with the fuzzy hairs that carry the seed away in the breeze.A very fun plant.

you can divide the "tubers" also, or do from cuttings, it's really easy any way you do it.

Lil "taters" form on my vines stems in the summer . I found bigger"taters" deep in the pot when I repotted mine. I have collected seeds from mine and grown them.Very slow growing. For the impatient, divisons or the bigger "taters" will be faster.

i have big taters -should i cut them and then plant them-do tell!!!

DeLand/Deleon Spring, FL(Zone 8b)

Yup mine is variegated
Interesting, mine doesn't get "taters" on the vine, it does get flowers and makes seeds. see this post Post #7390317
It has tubers in the soil, and these can be divided out also. Ones I've grown from seed last spring are about a foot long now.
Can you post a picture of the "taters" on your plant.

I'll have to look at the plant to see if there's any on it.
