Hi, I posted this on the "Pests" forum many days ago but got no reply so I'm trying it here:
--- I noticed that this cactus stopped growing and it is getting increasing covered with this stuff. Actually it seems as if there were two different things, one round and flat and another more like a fine fuzz made of little longish flakes.
I would appraciate help in getting rid of these. Thanks. ---
Nasty growth makes cactus stunted and yellow
I am no expert but you need to spray that quick. I see a couple fo spots that might be scale.
I know I have to spray it but with what???
I do not think it would hurt it to spray for insect and fungus. I have a spray around here somewhere that is good for both.
Do you have a good nursery around there? Or a extension agent office around? They might be able to tell you better.
Looks like scale bugs.Spray it with all seasons spray oil. NEVER use insecticidal soap it will make it rot.I found that out the hard way.
Orchidman1, I have ' Sunspray Ultra-Fine Year-Round Pesticidal Oil'. The active ingredient is 98.8% Paraffinic Oil. Hope that helps.

It's Bonide All Seasons Spray Oil Garden Naturals for use on fruits, vegetables, shade trees evergreens, ornamentals flowers and house plants. Kills trouble some insects such as scale, fungus gnats, aphids, whiteflies, mites, thrips, mealybugs and leafminers. Kills all stages of insects including eggs.I got mine from Homedepot.I found out about this on an cactus web site I can't remember witch one cause I do so much searching but a nursery that grows nothing but cactus said they sprayed half with the soap and half with the oil.The half they sprayed with the soap melted and the oil ones are happy and healthy now. I only wish I would of read that before I got some bad advice on spraying mine with the soap. within two days they roted:(
