I walk past the foot-long hanging seed pods of a Mountain Ash tree every day, & thought of you all, and plucked off about a dozen. I opened one & inside each are about 20 seeds the size of baby lima beans. I know NOTHING about growing this tree from seed, but it can't be too hard, as the one in my yard came from a 'volunteer' at the neighbor's. This is a wonderful conservation tree with long 10" leaves deeply divided into about 15 leaflets. I fell in love with the showy orange-red fruit (similar to crabapples & they hang on deep into the winter) it makes that the cardinals feed on all winter. These grow to 30' tall & are native to the mountains of eastern North America & are probably happiest in their native range. Anyone interested?
