Does anyone grow celery root also known as celeriac? I am trying to find some seeds or source of seeds.

I know Territorial has it and maybe High Mowing Orgainc seeds. I haven't grown it, I'm tempted though.

Thank you for the sites. I'm going to order the seeds from Territorial on the 3rd of Jan. According to the site I will get about 250 seeds. Do you want to try it and trade me some burg seeds for some celery root seeds? I love mashed celery root to replace potatoes and it has a better flavor.

Marti, I haven't had brug seeds in years!

Greensburg, PA

I grow celeriac from time to time and even used to buy it when I could. I love the smell of the root and the taste of it. Seeds are very small and it takes a while for the plant to get growing. Plan to start seeds much earlier than most vegetables in the house so that you will be ready to plant out after frost. I generally start mine in early February for planting out in may. I do not understand why this is not much more common. The fried root tastes similar to a fried parsnip. I wish you could buy plants for your garden locally, but have never seen them. I'm now wondering if any of the watchdog vendors will offer plants of this for the spring? When I can find it in the supermarkets, it is much too expensive.

I used to buy this out in Calif for .79 cents a lb. Now its over $2.00 a lb if you can find it. The markets found out that people who are cutting down on starch in their diet are looking for it and so the price has gone UP!!

Now that I have the land, I'll grow it every year. I will trade some of the seeds I get for something else I want, esp in veggie seeds. According to the supplier, I will receive appoximately 250 seeds. Anyone interested?

Mary
