Direction to Set Greenhouse help

Hampstead, NC(Zone 8a)

Help!
My husband built me a little greenhouse and I'm not sure which direction to set it up. It is 6X8 and I"m putting it near the garage for heat reflection. But should I face the door toward the east so I have even heat distribution on both sides?

Yours looks a lot like mine! What I'm finding is that the direction the wind comes from is more important. Ours comes usually from the SW, and my door is on the W, and sometimes I can barely open it or then get it closed when it is ferociously windy. Which is often. Then, too, my door got iced shut a week or so ago and I know it will again this winter. Is snow a problem in NC?

I have another, larger greenhouse my kids just finished building for me, and its door is on the north side, and because we almost never get weather from the north, I haven't had any problems with it.

I want the garage!

My 2 cents:

You want the GH oriented such a way that the exhaust system you install does not fight the prevailing winds.

Sun exposre above this parallel, below that parallel, shadows from the structure, none of that really matters if your ventilation is significantly reduced because your fan can't pull the air across the GH against the prevailing winds.

With a greenhouse that size I don't think it will matter which direction you have it in. Putting it next to the garage is a good idea, as long as the garage doesn't provide shade for the greenhouse throughout the day.

Also depends on what you want to do with your greenhouse- grow tropicals? Or only use for part of the year to raise seedling?

IMO it's nice to have a GH of that size close to the house, you'll be more prone to spend time out there. If it's far away (like mine) you'll might not want to scamper through the cold to visit your plants!

The shelves look nice- can we see a photo?

Thank you! I kept looking for responses but couldn't find where I posted! Yikes! The greenhouse is mainly for cuttings to over winter them. The garage can still hold bigger over wintering plants. I thought the garage would offer warmth and light reflection and since we have mild winters (It's 50 degrees right now) but at night it will freeze. My DH tore up the yard trying to get his drag racing trailer out of the yard so we won't be working on setting up the GH until next week. He owns a boat repair place here in Hampstead NC so this is the slow time of year for him.
The main reason for the GH is to root and over winter my Brugmansia's and over winter my 250 glad. (colors) So far I have just left them in the ground and thought I would try seperating them next year.
Seedlings? Tropicals? I need to give away some of what I have to make room!!!!
Maybe I will try growing herbs or something easy.
Now I just want to get it setting in the right direction! Beachbarbie and I need to have a beach round up some day!
Thank YOU! for your input! You can see some of my plants on our chihuahua page www.tntchihuahuas.com about us Donna's flowers...
