I thought I'd resurrect an old thread with sort of a new twist…
For those of you who remember, Pelletory started a funny thread "You know you're a wild bird nut when…"
Let's close 2009 with your bird crazy stories… and we can crown a 2009 Bird NUT!
2009 Bird Nut Award
you know you're a wild bird nut when you've hopped out of the car to photograph a bird you saw in a tree by the road, left it running because you're just "going to be a few seconds", lost track of time because the bird in question kept flying off a few feet, multiple times, and ran the car out of gas :(
Wow, that IS a good one 3g's!!!!
Luckily I was just outside of the village and not halfway to town. Was just a short 10 minute walk to the gas station...not one of my most shining moments...
You're know you're a wild birder when, having stopped for a bathroom break, you spy a turkey vulture. I'd been trying to get and pic of one so I hop in the car and go after it. After a while, the rascal veers away and is gone.
Then I realize, my significant other is not with me. Uh, oh, . . . .
Hack
Grounded!!!!
You're know you're a wild birder when I can say "I am an idiot" in
hummingbird lingo and get a standing o from the little birds around me.
dirt_in_ozone7b - bi-lingual, huh?
That's cool.
hack
you know you are a wild birder when there are feeders close to all your house windows with natural looking perches around to make people believe you got the pics out in the wild. Also when you brave snake and gator infested waters to get a little better shot of a heron or egret nest. Or sit in a blind half frozen to death trying to get a pic of a duck and then another and still waiting in case the one you haven't got yet shows up.
f_chisolm - I'd say you got it bad. Hooked on birding.
Hack
Oh these are good very very good LOLROF
When your husband's Uncle ask what are all the little trees that you have planted by all the sheperd hooks and you have to tell him they aren't trees they are broken branches you have stuck in the ground to give the birds 'perching trees' by the feeders on the hooks!
I think we might have a winner with the first one!!

I've missed this old thread, thanks for bringing it back Mrs-Ed.
That's a very good one 3G's, I've stop in the middle of the road before for pic, but never ran out of gas. LOL
My bird nutty story is, my kids threatening rehab, through INTERVENTION (tv show) on their mother. They even played a scenario, of what they would say to me.
dirt_in_ozone7b - what are friends for? to help other friends
Burn, lmao!
now I don't feel so bad!! We're all crazy!
Probably my craziest birdwatching moment was when I spotted a bird while looking out my front door I ran and grabbed my camera and ran out the door so fast I missed the step and fell down, hard, on the concrete! Ouch! and I didn't even get a good pic out of it! I survived to bird another day!
LOL!!!! I have fallen because I was looking thru the lens and looking up keeping bird in view and trying to walk backwards at the same time......
